hello purp,i'm on my 1st grow so i aint no expert, but reading stuff from experts they all say the CFL's have to be real close to the plants,as close as poss without burning

i'm using CFL's too and got em just 3 or 4 inches above plants

also ive read about transferring to the larger pots, when you do this, plant it down the pot so the very first small leaves are nearly touching the soil

I would also recommend more of a indica based strain. Sativas can get big, but if you train them, then it's all good. Still, indicas are optimal, imo.

LST and close light proximity will create short bushy plants. After a 6 week veg my plants were about 1 sq ft wide and only 6 inches tall from the soil in a 1 gallon grow bag.

lower your lights down to the plant i say a inch or 2 above but its your decision keep a eye on the plant so it wont burn also you will probably want 2 sets of CFL light bulbs the first set is 6500k (daylight) those are used during veggie time and 2700k used for flowering. the k stands for kelvin it indicates the light colour if your strapped for cash you can just use the same light bulbs throughout the grow. You will probably want a fan to be blowing on your plants to create a stronger stock (stem) and i would suggest LSTing if you have room of course. You can put as many CFL bulbs around the plant but keep in mind temperature. you'll probably want a temperature of around 20-25C. Watering is quite important during the first few weeks of growth to check if it needs to be watered simply dig your finger about a inch or so into the pot and check if the soil is dry or moist or wet do this around the edge of the plant to avoid damaging the roots
