NEWB: Clone lighting, Veg. time, Nutes

Hey Guys-
Been lurking here for some time, and taking in a TON of great information. So now its time to start asking a few of my own specific questions. Here is what im working with: Soil Grow, (2) 1000w air cooled hoods with switchable ballasts, MH/HPS bulbs.

I am getting a few clones and have a couple of questions:

1. Can I put these under the 1k lights with a MH bulb and just make sure I don't burn them or is that just way too much too fast? I have (2) 4' flourescent tubes (can get more also) should I put the clones under these for a few days and then hit them with the 1k MH, or just leave them under flourescents only?

2. How long or how tall should these be when I turn them over to the 12/12? I have a total height of about 6.5' inside the room, so there is somewhat of a height limitation. If I start topping the plants, do I change over to 12/12 at a certain height, or is there a rule of thumb for # of days.

3. These babies are going to live in sunshine #4 mix. I have some maxigrow from General Hydroponics, which is 10-5-14. They specify 1-2tsp/gal. Being a baby plant, should I start this thing out at 1/4tsp/gal? Should I use every watering, every other watering?

Thanks for the time guys, total newb here itching for advice from the masters!

come on guys, no advise for the newb?

Since this post I have the kids under (4) 4' T8 bulbs 6400k (32w?), and (2) 4' 54w lights with reflectors from the hydro shop (these are mounted on each side)....If the answer to my above questions is to keep them under the tubes, should I go and get t5 bulbs with a higher wattage? I would like to see a little faster growth.

im kinda new but i have been reading alot of this bored so here my opnions:

1. hit em with the floro because it will save you energy and you will not have to worry about it getting to hot. (although you should have them in a humidity dome beforehand)
2. from what i have herd as far as veg time is that usually a month is good (depending on how big you want them) or about a foot tall. as far as putting them into flower expect them to grow 2-3 times bigger
3. i use hydro and am unfamiliar with soil sorry

just thought i would hit ya with some love since you havent got any replys yet
