Newb Question - Hydroponic maintenance

I have a Hydroponic system and my plants are 12 days old, in this 12 day my reservoir generated unwanted algae.

-So i took out my plants and clean my system
-Covered the spots that did not have one (less light to my reservoir)

If this same thing happens when my plants have a developed root system how do i clean my system?

-Where do you put your plants meanwhile to do the least amount of stress and damage to the roots??

Thanks for your help.

OR you can run beneficial bacteria but I recommend a sterile res even though you haven't given any details.oh, maybe I should follow the link..... :/

I see, I like to keep a neoprene insert in the pot so my rockwool isn't exposed to light and other shit.sterile res for sure, just pour in some h2o2 every now and then AFTER you've done the research and decided just how much you want to add and when you want to add it to maintain a sterile res.

I can give you a recipe to a killer tea that you can brew to use. But you need to clean your resi at least 1 every 7 to 14 days. I like to do mine within 7-10. I've used hydrogen peroxide but its a harsh chemical to be using on plants especially at 35% to make it efficient enough to kill what ever is in the water. The tea kind of acts like hygrozyme its very effective and amazing...

Thanks for the advise, I'll check the h2o2 application and your setup.

Lets suppose I use de h2o2, I have the change and clean the reservoir.

It's ok if I put the roots of my plants in plane water while I clean and change the reservoir?? Or it is to stressful for the plant?

just ph the water and they will be fine I do it all the time, the algae is a problem you have to get rid of it or you will have problems, there must be light getting into your res thats causeing it,as far as cleaning the res in the future thats up to you to find an easy way to do it,I dont remove my plants once there in flower,I just drain the res and fill it back up with my nute solution.also keep your res temps in line,I dont let mine get above 70 deg.

1.7ml 35% per liter is recommended every 3-4 days or 1ml 50% unless you're using organic nutes. It kills pathogens and anaerobic bacteria and it oxygenates your water, which is a good thing. I'm not going to use a high concentration like that starting off. I'm probably going to use that except per gallon not liter.

I second the suggestion of pot covers, hydrofarm makes them 9 dollars for 40 pack, you definitely don't want light at your roots.

Also keep your res at 68 degrees or a tad lower and keep that covered also.

What you needed to do was trim down those rockwool cubes to a size small enough to surround with hydroton pellets in the net pot. That's how you keep the light away from your res. Better to prevent algae from forming at all so you don't have to worry about cleaning it every time.

Thaks for the advise!!

Notes:

- Today I went shopping so I bought.
*My PH / Water temp meter.
*Some hydroton pellets to block the light from the resevoir.
*Florakleen to keep my system in shape.

- I had to lower down the PPM reading (with water) because it was 386 - I want to keep it under 300
- Also I cut the rockwool smaller and surrounded it with hydroton pellets.
-My water pump is still off, only the air pump is on.
