newb soil to hydro question

i wouldnt start them in a DWC. id start in a paper towel until they get a tap root about 1/4" long. if your useing rockwool soak it for at least a few hours in water ph'ed to 5.5. take your cracked seed and toss them in the rockwool. put the rockwool in a bowl or a plate anything that will hold 1/2" of water, and let them sit in that until they have a few roots workin their way out of the rockwool. by the time you have a few roots hangin out the plant will be about 2" tall and ready for the bubbler.

hell yea man thanx very happy with your response,do i put 1/2 of water in a bowl then place the newly crack seed in the rockwool in the bowl and let it sit or do i leave it in a dry bowl and water the seedling daily ?? and also when they are big enough to transfer into dwc do you encourage to add an top feed or should the bubbler by it self be enough thanx

lol my bad lol yeah you put the rockwool with the seed in it in the container with 1/2" of 5.8 PH'ed water. they should have decent roots in 2 or 3 days. i dont feed anything at all for the first week in the bubbler. they will grow mostly roots in the first week and dont need alot of nutes to do that. once i start feeding i start off with just alil bit (200PPMs or less) the bring it up about 75 PPMs every other day untill they get really dark green. once they get dark like that you know your on the edge of getting nute burn so back the nutes down 100PPMs. i use GH 3 part and my young plants (less than 3 weeks old) top out at about 700PPM, but that will vary alot from strain to strain.
and just to help your plants make that first week without any probs give them alil super thrive. it works wonders, but dont use to much it will make your plants stretch bad.

cool deal ,my plans is 2 30gal black tubs,grow about 6 plants per tub under a 1000watt hps , how the bud quality in hydro can you tell the difference between soil and hydro , all i heard was that soil has that earthly taste but as for high how is it ??? cant wait to make some serious bud rite now goin into my 3rd week of flowering under sad ass cfl

yeah there is a difference in taste but thats not to say its better or worse. its just different, if you flush and cure it right its really hard to tell the difference. the high is pretty much the same as outdoor or soil indoor pot.
and IMHO 1000w is overkill for just 12 plants. the 1000 watter will only get about 16"-20" down into the canopy. that means youll only be growing good nuggs in that 20" every thing else will just be popcorn bub. i think yould be much better off at harvest time if you had 24 plants that you vegged for 2 weeks or less. more of a SOG. but thats your call.

when i change the water all i do is take the lid off and dump out the water then refill with new clean water and thats it? also the final two weeks just plain ph adjusted water and thats all? now you got me thinking in downgrading into a smaller hps bulb

yup just refill with PH'ed water and nutes and your set.

nooooo. ya do that and youll have dead plants. i flush for 2 or 3 days depending on plant size. this is hydro not soil,,, things happen much faster.
now you got me thinking in downgrading into a smaller hps bulb
for just 2 tubs 12 plants total i would go with nothing more than a 600 watt. or if you want to veg alil less a 400 will work. you might not yield as much with a 400 as you will with a 1000, but the difference wont be huge.

no i use just ph'ed water no nutes at all for the last few days. there are some flushing additives, but ive never used any that worked any better than water. i tried some banana flavored flush and it did make the bud smell kinda bananaish until i cured it. once it was cured it tasted and smelled just like every thing else i grew that i didnt use it on.

im sorry ive been smoking tonight,,, youve completely lost me. lol i dont understand what your askin. if your asking how long you should flower before you flush, that would depend on the strain.

Hey BigBad, All good stuff you're giving, but I was wondering about that statement. Plants require a lot of nutes to start growing roots, esp. P. And like you said the vitamins/hormones help a lot, too.

IMHO nutes on seedlings can be black magic. it seems like i grow a different strain just about every time i grow, and some will take the nutes without probs and some wont. i use GH 3 parter, but thats just in name. i dont use the "gro" at all. when i start nutes i use just the micro, and when they get to flower i use alil micro and alot of bloom. the micro doesnt have much (P) and has too much (N) for most the seedlings i have grown. when i order my nutes GH will let you buy the 3 parter but it can be any of the 3 parts. i order 1 micro and 2 bloom. it saves alil cash ($30.00 per grow) and alil worry (its been along time since i have over nuted a seedling).
the seedlings could prolly use the extra (P) of the gro, but my plants seem to be happy, and ima tight wad. lol
