I've been doing some research (gong build my own led grow light) and most people seem to agree Cree leds are the best (because they have the best lm/w?) but there are many different type's/series and I can't find a use this -> "one" for grow lights.

Near every guide/diy I've read uses a different chip.

*Small grow box (4x4x4 will not be jam packed maybe 3 plants) ATM the plan is 1 main overhead light (150ish watts) and 1-2 smaller side lights (60ish watts)

4'x4'? Wouldn't you want like 600W total over that size area?

Maybe two of these?

They run off 400W electronic Metal Halide ballasts. Just a thought. Very nice SPD, very efficient, and an easy DIY solution.

Cree XM-L and XM-L2's are also very efficient for Neutral/Cool White. AFAIK, Cree doesn't have single wavelength LED's apart from the XP-G series so you'd have to go XP-G for your Red, or perhaps Philips Rebel, Osram Oslon, LEDEngin, etc. if going this route. I believe the Oslon Warm White's are more efficient and have more Deep Red than Cree offerings.

The cree LEDs are US made and they are all tested and sorted into batches so you know exactly what you are getting, I think that is one of the main reasons people like cree.
