Hello all, Newbie here. :-o

Been doing hours of reading and have already learned a lot from this forum. This forum seems like a very informative one!

I have a closet I want to do this in, its 2'x3'x8' tall. I'm thinking of doing an LED setup or at least a HID setup but really leaning towards LEDs.

A little background about my experience (with lighting and plants). I have been into salt water and freshwater planted and coral tanks, I always used LEDs for the lighting. The most recent tank was a 220 gallon PDF (Poison Dart Frog) Vivarium that I also grew some nice tropical plants that needed certain humidity and temp as well as the proper cycling of lighting, ferts. So I feel with me being successful in that I will be in this new adventure.

I feel that I am ready to start looking for the equipment. I would like this to be my journal so I can look back at all the info people have giving me and find everything easily.

I will fill these in below once I figure out what I will be buying.

Lighting:
Air circulation: http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-CARBON-FILTER-FAN-COMBO-KIT-EXHAUST-INLINE-DUCT-SCRUBBER-ODOR-CONTROL-6-inch-/161078418203?pt=US_Hydroponics&hash=item2581059b1b
Soil:
Plant pots:
Ferts:
Trimming supplies:
Co2: ??

Misc:

And if I forgot something please let me know and I shall edit and add.

1st thing Id like to figure out as its the most expensive part is the lighting, whats a good source to get these from, I've read people getting them from members off E-bay that are from China. I know many people are all about quality of the lights etc but from my experience with my other hobbies the cheaper ones work just as good as the more expensive. I also have experience with Co2 from my freshwater planted tanks. What sucks is that all my equipment is sold as I got out of the hobby and I had a kick ass LED kit for my 220 tank, Co2 kits, just would have needed to change the bulbs out for the correct spectrum.

Please make some suggestions on where else to get the LEDs from, I am also not afraid to build my own DIY LED if needed, I am very handy and have the tools.

Thanks

Growing weed will cost money! Period point blank, expect to spend even if you are DIY. There are some cool DIY threads on here and videos on Youtube. I got a pet Large Mouth Bass in a small tank but with live plants, nothing spectacular but I love fish tanks!

Peace

Cool man, thanks. I'm not worried about spending some money on this, I do want to do it right but not go crazy and sink 2k for just a couple/ few plants. I do tend to go overboard on things.

I have seen some builds and continue to lurk around some more on here. I've seen many pictures of yours and I must say they are awesome. Read lots of your posts also in my short time being here.

Take care.

Hey bortz! First off, great start by making yourself a log!

I have the same growing dimensions as you and just a heads up..

Steer away from the fans like the one you linked: Duct boosters. they are meant assist air flow in a system that already has a main source of air flow. this will not be enough to exhaust your room. the fan is worth 25-30$ and the filter is cheap (DIY for 10-20$). if you want to stick with that budget get a real inline fan like this Tjernlund.

Good luck,
Trippy :bigjoint:

I am new to it all too. I purchased the 240 watt LED the adjor mentioned in his 600 watt Chinese led grow thread. I am very happy with it, granted I only have one 6 day old seedling under it. But Trousers and adjor are growing some nice looking plants under theirs. This is what I bought ( I swear it looks just like what I ave seen in the local grow shops for a good bit more money...) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pro-LED-Grow-Light-7-Band-Hydroponic-240w-HydroLED-Plant-Grow-Light-Flowering-/151143007265?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=lt%252Fo8nLxexPmE3%252F5GaWByrr8arY%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

I didn't know that was a booster fan I posted, Ill prob just get the combo with the fan that was linked by you, the fan, speed controller and a canister.

After looking into the lights you provided I think I'm settled on an LED fixture, this is the one I'm thinking of getting, http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-300W-LED-Grow-Light-6-Band-3W-Veg-Flower-LEDs-Hydroponic-Pro-LED-Grow-Panel-/151135384619?pt=US_Hydroponics&hash=item23305ef42b Seems to be a little more powerful over the 240 and covers more area than my 2x3 room. I've read where having more light than needed isn't a bad thing. So either I was going to do 2 - 240 kits or just this one. But than again, if I do the 2 240 watt ones, I can have more light spread. Hmmm!

What do you think, one 300 watt or two of those 240 watts, now that I'm thinking more about it i'm thinking the 2 would be much better than one?
