So I purchased this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001J9SYW2/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00

Then it broke so I returned it. Now I have the option getting a refund of almost 180.00USD or replacement.

I am so new to this I honestly don't know whats better. Is the light worth getting replaced or should I cash in and use that money to get a different grow light to use? I mean I did an Amazon search and for that money I can get any one of these http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_nr_p_36_5?bbn=2972638011&keywords=grow+lights+for+marijuana&qid=1358849521&rh=k:grow+lights+for+marijuana,n:2972638011&rnid=2661611011&low-price=&high-price=180&x=9&y=13

So am I making a mistake by considering a replacement. Or should I get a different type of light?

Thank you everyone for any help.

I'd get a refund and use it on some hid lights. Good LEDs cost a lot of money, so until the technology catches up, the ones under a few hundred are usually shit.

I don't think large CFLs make for a good primary light, especially for flower. I use many small CFLs right now. The LED you bought seems rather low-end. Decent LEDs cost a lot more. So, most people will tell you to get an HID. If you go that route, consider the cooling you may or may not need. I also suggest an electronic ballast that can handle MH and HPS.

If your space is small go with a 400watt hps, screw mh. If you have a 4x4 space get a 600watt hps and if you can come up with the extra money get dimmable, if not get magnetic. Dont deal with cheap amazon LEDs, this htg supply 240 watt for 270$ has done me well. :) good luck

go with the apallo hps mh lighting kits.....cheap and top of the line...............
I actually used one of their bulbs for a cycle, I was pleased with the results...can't say anything for the ballast or reflector though, didn't use those

Apollo is good...im gonna be going with a 1000 watt gavita with my next grow in my new place. The ufo's are cheap as stated...if it doesn't cost around $250 or more for LED it isn't worth getting unless its a friend hookin you up for next to nothin. Go switchable HID works best for your budget.

here ya go man

http://www.amazon.com/Apollo-Electronic-Dimmable-Reflector-Hydroponic/dp/B00521B894/ref=sr_1_1?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1358858996&sr=1-1&keywords=600w+apollo

i use the 1000w apollo kit. the cool tube reflector sucks but everything else does as its supposed to.

the light above is dimmable to 250, 400 i believe so if heat is a issue you can always turn down the light (just make sure you have the proper bulb in it)

3 year warranty on the ballast and 1 year warranty on the bulbs...cant go wrong with that price.

I was hoping everyones answer would be the same so I knew what to get. Which is the best the switchable HID, the Apollo, the hps, screw mh, the gavita, or lastly the ufo's? I really just need one answer. Thanks. Oh and the space I'm using is cramped and small its the size of a coat closet.

However I can always take the plants and move them out of the closet and move them somewhere else like back on kitchen table which is. Where they used to be before my gf made me move them out of sight out of mind. So dont let space. Necessarily be the determining issue when helping me pick out a light here. Thanks again everyone.

Ninja bowler where can I buy the one in your photo? And is it better than http://www.amazon.com/Apollo-Electronic-Dimmable-Reflector-Hydroponic/dp/B00521B894/ref=sr_1_1?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1358858996&sr=1-1&keywords=600w+apollo

Get that 600 dude, HPS is the king, end of story. Mine is availible through HTG supply website, shippings expensive. Its only good for a veg light, not enough coverage for more than 1 or 2 plants tops. That HPS will do 4 med plants just fine. Much better if yur rotating them through. Youll never regret buying the best so always start with the best :):):)

Door number one..the cool tube..what do i win??
Id go with the cool tube just because you can have the option of running the cool tube or not. If it gets too hot then run it or if its cold outside then just take the inline fan off and scrub with your carbon filter if yu have to. But make sure your ocilating fans are still running. The number one thing to remember when buying anything from amazon is WARRENTY. No warrenty or shit warrenty...stay away. Those ballasts could all be refurb stuff and amazon shit breaks all the time. Thats why i bought my hps sets from my hydro store because if one goes down i drive at warp speed over there and they give me another one till mines fixed or replaced.(never happened yet but they told me theyd do it for me :) )
hps is the best for flower and flower is the only important part of growing. You could veg under a nightlight or a candle or a stove light or a strobe light, just flower under a HPS. Trust me :)
