Night Cycle vs. Night Vision Security Cameras

I've installed security cameras into my grow room, and they're equipped with infrared l.e.d.'s for night vision.

  • Will the infrared l.e.d.'s affect my night cycle?
If you're not familiar with the l.e.d.'s once the light goes out you can visibly see the red ring of lights around the lens.

:peace: Any and all serious opinions are welcome. :peace:

Going on the assumption that your room is "on premises", what do you need a security system inside the room for? Do you just want to be able to see them at night?
Now if my grow were "off premises", I could see a need for it, but then again, If anything did go down, what could I do but sit there and watch the unspeakable happen? I ain't lucky enough to get clear face shots.

I use the cameras more for observation than security. With the cameras I can check the humidity, temps, the way the circulatory fans are operating and affecting the girls, and the plant's growth without having to physically go into the room. With the night vision I can keep record of both day and night specs 24/7 without disturbing the ladies from their beauty rest. Plus with the cameras I can still monitor them while I'm traveling via the internet. :blsmoke:

Ya know... That's actually a good idea! My grow room is way on the other side of my house (BIG house) A camera would be a big timesaver for me.

Thanks!

+ rep to you!

LOL!!! Tru Dat!!! I did have a prob when I couldn't monitor temp inside while the lights were off. So I went and bought a "weather station" from Radio Shack (The "other" growers supply store) that has both an indoor and out door display panel. I mounted 1 panel to the wall outside the room, and get temp, and humidity without going in. I'm in the process of setting up an alarm to alert if the temps get above 85.

I don't know if I'd WANT to know anything while on vacation, or out of town. I mean, WTF can you do if shit goes south? And god forbid you should log on just in time to see the tops of your plants disappearing around the corner, and then an empty room. THAT would just cap off a great vacation!!

I ain't knockin the idea, don't get me wrong. There are plenty of reasons I'd do the same thing, just more for personal knowledge rather than an early warning system for a time when I can't do shit about it.

I believe the red led's WOULD cause problems with your light schedule. In the past, I've had problems with such small light sources as power strip lights, and finally learned to cover ALL possible light souces in the flower room with aluminum tape.
I use a security sysem in the exact opposite way you do. My monitor is in the grow room to let me know what's going on outside. I have four wireless cameras and when it gets dark they emit a red light. I definitely think they could cause problems when used inside the grow room, especially during flower:joint:

Thanks for the info. For now I'm playing it safe by having the camera's power source automatically power off when the night cycle begin.
