Hello.

Just about finished with my 2nd AK48 grow and thought I'd make a thread as I have read a lot of misinformation all over the net on this strain. (and I am bored)

First: It's NOT an F2 of AK47. The two strains probably share some genes...but that's true of any plant derived from a skunk or a northern lights...or a...well you get my point.

What AK48 IS: A cross between a male Jock Horror and a female Ice.

Are there variations in the AK48 plants? Yes of course...but this not due to it being a F2 of AK47 and thus "less stable"...it's due to it being a cross! Like most crosses...there will be some variation.

Now there is one pheno called the cherry pheno for AK48. Supposedly smells like marrchiano <-- sp? cherries when in the jar.
I have not come across that pheno unfortunately. If someone has...I've LOVE to hear about it as I still have some seeds...maybe I can still win the lottery! :)

Hope this info helped...the seeds are pretty cheap...easy to grow...the smoke and yield are pretty good...maybe you should give it a whirl.

Nirvana AK48

Location: indoor; Type: indica/sativa; Flowering: ~52 days; No feminized seeds.
Known Phenotypes: » new » none up to now (homogenous??)

Since the mid 1990s "AK" strains have been increasingly popular. Our AK-48 is one of the strongest early finishing strains available anywhere. AK-48 produces hard buds with an exceptional penetrating aroma. AK-48 is an indica/sativa hybrid yet it retains most of its sativa qualities in its high. AK-48 finishes in as early as 48 days if conditions are perfect.
  • * Plant type: Best suitable for indoor growing.

yeah?

So Nirvana's AK48 (feminized) strain, is a cross between their Ice strain and their Jock Horror strain? Nice.

That's crazy too.. Nirvana's Ice is what I was growing before I ordered the AK48. LOL.. had no idea that the AK48 had Ice in the mix. Nice though.. makes me even more excited to grow the AK48.

I ordered my feminized 5pk of Nirvana's AK48 strain. Got them this past Thursday.. started germinating two that same night they arrived. As of today, I've got two healthy little sprouts. Not ready for the heavy lumens just yet.. so they're both sitting under a few 6500k CFL bulbs until they get two weeks old, then they'll go into the flowering chamber.. along with my last 'ice plant' from Nirvana that I had from the last order.

Ahh yes, I timed it just right too. By the time the Ice lady is ready to harvest (another 10 or 11 weeks - still got a while).. but by the time she's ready to harvest.. My two new AK plants will be a few weeks into flowering.. so I figure by the time my last Ice plant is harvested and dried.. and cured.. I should be harvesting at least one of the two new AK plants. That's the plan anyhow..

anyhow.. gotta run. Have a few errands I need to run.

peace.

I'm skeptical of the liniage of anything Nirvana offers. With names like Jock Horror, AK48, Hollond's Hoop, Short Ryder, and Swiss Cheese, you can't help but wonder if these are total rip offs of other breeder's strains. It's like the cereal you buy at the discount grocery stores. Like Nutty Nuggets instead of Grape Nuts, Krispy Rice instead of Rice Krispies and Cinnamon Toasters instead of Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

True. I have experience with about 6 Nirvana strains and I can't really complain too much about them given that they used to be $10 per 10 pack when I was using them. Lots of variation though but again, you get what you pay for.

Ak48 grows wonderfully, has crazy looking fan leaves ((different than most strains, it has double serrated leaf fingers (usually)) and a very unique smell/taste. It is fire, as are many Nirvana strains. Variation is fine by me, get a bad pheno?-throw the mother fucker away... Maybe that's why Nirvana has better prices than all of the other capitalist asshole breeders. Like The Doggies Nuts, they're prices are rediculous- IMO they should be tortured and laughed at... 800 dollars for a 10-pack? There is no strain that is THAT good. Those guys are rediculous, "you get what you pay for" is more often bullshit than true. If Nirvana seeds were that bad then they wouldn't have lasted 30+ years..

...Nirvana was founded in 1995; the founder left Positronics to breed on his own.Though, he has been breeding for 30+ years... just thought I would clear that up, before somebody decides to cuss me out for it. lol.

Anheuser-Busch has been around for about 150 years now. Does anyone think Budweiser is the best beer out there?

The point is, there may not be a great correlation between the longevity of a company and the quality of its product.

The only thing you can safely conclude from the fact that company "X" has been around for a long time is that a. its product isn't absolutely awful, and b. it fills a given market niche.

And of course, even once great companies can go South and start making inferior product.

Like I said, I didn't mean they were any better than anyone else but they at least have experience in the business. This is no doubt. Many people do think Budweiser (or any given company) is the best or else they wouldn't be in business very long... certainly not 150 years. I never said they were the best, I went out of my way to say that, because in my opinion they aren't even in the top 5 (or even 10)... but that's all it is- an opinion. Nobody can say what beer out there is the best for everybody, all they can do is have a favorite because everybody's idea of 'best' is different.

From a brewing perspective, Anheuser-Busch has some of the most talented brewers around. For starters, it takes a lot of skill to make a beer that tastes like fizzy water. You can hide imperfections in a big stout or an IPA, but not a light american lager. Additionally, their consistency is second-to-none. Drink a Bud in Hong Kong, Ireland, Russia, or Florida, it all tastes identical. Pretty tough to do considering those beers were probably produced at different breweries (they operate 13). Did I mention they brew higher gravity versions of their beers and dilute them with water to increase brewhouse efficiency? Smart folks over there.

I'm personally not a fan but you're right, they do fill a niche market, try 20% of it with bud lite alone ;).

In regards to pricing, I think both bud and Nirvana are priced pretty fairly given their product and competition.
