Has anyone else find that seedlings get stuck with the shell and just cant shed it, then having to remove it by hand, only had this experience with nirvana

Hey nongreeen,
I have noticed this happening on a small percentage of all of the seeds I have sprouted and planted.....(from all sources) maybe 5-10% I would guess.

95% of the baby plants with the seed shell still stuck to cotyledons eventually drop the shell.....some do require gentle finger or tweezer manipulation to remove.
I now wait several days to see if the seedling can cast off it's old home by itself!!!
If it looks like it can not do this on it's own.....that's when I step in and gently correct, removing the spent casing.
The plants then go on to lead happy and fulfilling lives!!!

that is nothing particular with nirvana seeds, hack i even have that with my tomato seeds half the time i'm growing right now to get set for spring. and so far non nirvana seed doing that to me;)

yeah, that just happens.

for the heck of it i tried Nirvana for the first time this year and my only issue is that it's very obvious that i have been sent first gen F1 seeds.

i count 3 potential phenotypes in 8 of my germinated plants so far. (2 seeds did not germinate.)

stabilizing your own favorite strain is part of the fun i guess. if i like how these turn out i'll start the back crossing next year and make my own. :)

Yes! But only maybe 1 out of 10 sprouts. It's not a big deal though. I

I hate Nirvana Seeds Company - they ripped me off. They do not answer e-mails.

i don't know that it's specific to nirvana. i think a POSSIBLE cause for that other than seeds not being vigorous enough could be that they get too dry to create enough pressure to pop the shells. sometimes too the seeds might just be on the old side. i've noticed that much of the time the seeds that don't want to open have browned membranes that create a dark spot at the tip of the primordae (sp?) right where they'd open.

whenever it happens, i just CAREFULLY stick the point of a sharp toothpick inside the primordae and then wedge them open by pushing against a finger. the trick is to do it with just the tip of the toothpick and not to force it too hard. otherwise, you'll probably snap one of them and lose your plant.

i think once a plant is mature enough, it should be able to pop that membrane on it's own, but i still like to open them up on my own just to give them a quicker start.

He doesnt do anything except lie.

Hey Hazey, run into your grow room rq and snap a picture for everyone to see....

Oh wait, you dont have a grow room. To bad you cant snap a picture of lies, you have plenty of those.
