NL#5xHaze X Jack Herer

I have been growing for a few years and have been chasing an amazing plant that I grew in 1992. My all time favorite seeds were the NL#5xHaze from Sensi Seeds and the batch I grew that year were memorable for me. The calyx's were huge, ropy strings on the buds. A lot of the bud was a pale lime green color. It almost looked white with resin glands. It turned out to be the best I have ever grown. I have tried to repeat that crop over the years, buying and planting packs of Sensi NL#5xHaze seeds but never with the results from '92. Well, last year I bought the usual Sensi NL#5xHaze and I ordered 2 Sensi Jack Herer seeds just to try out (they are very expensive seeds.)
I had heard good things about Jack Herer for years but had not grown or smoked it. Only one of my two Jack Herer seeds popped and it turned out to be a male. I ended up pollinating my NL#5xHaze with the Jack Herer pollen. That Jack Herer plant was a very robust, bushy male so I thought it might make a good pollen source. My latest crop of plants is from this resulting seed and all I can say is that I am extremely happy with the results. The buds look like they came out of a Sensi Seeds advertisement. There was not a huge amount of variation among this group of plants though you could see the differences in phenotype. All of the plants had the same type of thick ropy buds with huge calyx's and a lot of it is lime green in color. It will be a bit until it is dried and cured so I am not sure how potent it will be but the finger hash I got when chopping it put me on my butt just like I remember the original doing.

Yeah man, Jack is the shizzle. My son-in-law and I smoked some at his studio in Venice Beach and three tokes put me in a coma!

And now you know how 90% of the breeders out there do it.

You got a f1 cross. The plants will have hybrid vigor and be uniform. Easy to produce and no one can copy. there are exceptions. Depends on how many generations the parents were worked and any inbreeding to lock traits.

I say if you are happy with them, and they look great, clone them. If not you might spend another 10-20 years looking.

Its happened to all of us. The one that got away. The one we continually seek but never find.

I have wondered about some of the stuff breeders are putting out being f2 and you start to see a lot variation among the plants. The variation is OK I guess if you are going to clone but I always just wanted most of the plants the same from the start. That stuff I grew in '92 was well received by my friends. They called it Rip Van Winkle cause you would lose track of time. I was pretty worried that the results of this cross would turn out to be crap. I've made some other crosses that were mostly hermie but this one turned out real good. This is my first grow with a CMH along with an HPS.

The mixed spectrum and added uv from the cmh will make a world of difference.

The crop really seemed to finish fast. I was expecting to have to wait 2 or 3 more weeks based on my experience with NL#5xHaze flowering. The cross with Jack Herer may have shortened the flowering period by about a week I think. Previous grows with NL#5xHaze have been about 11 or 12 weeks flowering. I am very pleased with the CMH!
