You don't need a loupe to tell when they're ripe.

Do you need special tools to tell you when it's time to eat a banana or raspberry? It's just a matter of eating them all and seeing which you like best, then after you eat it, it becomes obvious in the future what a ripe banana looks like.

The bracts will swell and the pistols will retract and turn brown. Just cut a tiny piece off and quick dry every so often and that'll give you an idea of what your strain is like at different times.

It's relative to your grow. Ideally the post above is correct for a healty plant. Be patient. Most healty plants will do a one last bulking spurt after they seem like they did nothing the last week. However, if you have damage or weak plants then you might need to chop earlier and move on.

There's no substitute for a good 60-100x scope and they can be had at most hydro shops for under $25

For those that want to know when peak potency/maturity is,we use scopes, otherwise it's a guessing game as there are a lot of variables like which phenotype (sativa, indica),environmental conditions, lighting and intensity of said lighting, feeding schedule, etc.

When ya really want to know, scope em...if you don't care, use your eye.

I don't use a scope either but this is what I do. 10weeks at least for any plant. Must be a healthy 10weeks. And that is full flower not 12/12 days. At ten weeks visually inspect. If it looks ready to u, find a bud that looks the least developed and try it. If your plant is healthy u can damn near see the trichs standing up. Wait until they look dirtyish. Cloudy if u were looking thru a scope. Smell ur babies. Is the scent strong? Look at ur overall leaf health. Yellowing and shedding of leaves is a good time she's reaching peak.. after I smoke a blunt or two ill be back to share more

I'll go with these guys and say wait till about 70% of your pistils turn redish brown and it smells strong, look for leaves dieing off even though your feeding her...and I don't do the flush thing, just a good month long cure after drying...:weed:

Just for kicks, I was doing some reading earlier today and realized they actually do have tools for finding out if apples are ready.

They cut apples open and use iodine on the flesh to see how much of it is still starch by how much turns black. When the iodine test shows little to no starch left, the apples are ready to harvest!!! Or you could just eat one to find out!

Here's a picture of some apples with iodine on them!

starch_levels_honeycrisp.jpg

They still look like they've got some time to go! 1 week maybe.

I actually wonder if the same iodine starch tests could be useful for testing weed.

Rik, have you ever been curing a batch of fresh bud, 2nd week maybe and then actually threw in a few nugs of some mature cured shit? Man that shits nuts lol. Fuck using fruit/veggies/sprays. Keep it all natural. Bud w/ bud!
