noise suppresion

Can someone please give me a hand.
I am trying to do a stealth grow box in my basment. I went out and got a 2l*2w*5.5h metal storage box. It is a good size for my 400w hps. my problem is that when i turn on my light, it makes a hum noise.. not too loud but you can definitly hear it. Is there anything i can do to help noise control? I am trying to go for a compleatly sighlent box. My only idea so far was to go to a car audio store and get some sound deadining material and coat the whole inside of the box. Anybody have anything better? Thanks.

no i really need a better answer than that.. bit more info.. it is in an unfinished basment (lots of concrete) and just sitting on metal feet. any idea's?

get a light that doesn't hum so much. Mine doesn't hum at all. You have to realize that with an HID light you are going to get a lot of heat. a lot of heat means a lot of ventilation. A lot of ventilation means a lot of fans. I think you see where this is going.

The fans are going to be far louder than the hum of the light. Rethink your situation my man. If the hum of a light is too much for you, this might be too difficult for you to pull off.

try putting it on a ruber mat

i seriously just play music for my plants and it drowns out the fan, and the ballast has rubber feet in the basement. the vortex makes alot more noise. music is good for you, good for the plants, and drowns the vibe noise. enough info for you.

maybe go to cfl's lights they works without noise.they makes lower heat and thats mean less ventilation,you can use comp vents they are low noise.

hmmm. wish i could help you out. that's gonna take some creative thinking.

why don't you set up some kind of mock hobby right in your grow area to throw people off. i have a light timer for seedling propagation (of legal flowers ) near the space that makes a hum and clicks and it distracts from my vent fan noise.

well.. i like the idea's.. how about soundboard or somethign like that
i think ill try to just turn my central air on and see if it drowns out the noise.

Is someone going to be in the basement that cant find the grow???
you may have more problems then just noise if thats the case. Sniff Sniff...

a grow op makes some noise - about as much as a loud computer with old fans with failing bearings. Got any piece of shit PCs you can setup there?

sorry to say it bro but the only way your gonna drown that hum down is if you put your ballest in the box
but thats another problem because like some said earlier the amount of fans youll need to cool that bitch down and not kill your plants......... thats just counter productive
get some cfls or you might want to find another hobie
