Noob accepting grow room design advice

Hi, I'm a new medical marijuana patient in Michigan. I have decided to try and grow my own plants so i don't have to pay such high prices (I smoke like a fiend now :bigjoint: ).

I have an area in my securable basement that I've cleared out and am willing to dedicate. there are already some DIY wooden shelves in the area I had used for storage. Do you think I would be able to utilize these? Or will I have to remove them?

My next subject is the growing method. I don't really know what would best suit my grow space. I know the different methods, there is a lot of information on this site about them, Scrog, Sog, stadium, LST, vertical (thats all I've heard of). However, Which one would be the best for a perpetual grow that keeps me in constant supply of medicine and will also utilize the full potential of my grow area?

The dimensions of the grow area are 7Wx6Lx7H. Like I said there are already wooden shelves there but they can be removed if need be.

Here is a pic to give a visual:

I'm currently buying from dispensaries and friends but I want to begin cultivating my own ASAP. So hopefully I'll get some good advice from this community, most of you seem really intelligent, but I have come across a few dumb monkeys.

My room is just a bit bigger than yours. You can easily seal up one of those shelves and turn it into your veg cabinet. Then use the open area for your flowering. ;) What kind of light/ventilation setup are you planning?

when i saw that pic, i imagined hydro reservoirs on those shelves, with the plants growing inwards towards the light, which would be hanging from that ducting up top(if its strong enough). not very efficient, but i just thought id tell u haha

heres what id do: use the left shelves for vegging and open up the right side for flowering.
get rid of that shelf on the right. get some drywall to put on the left shelf, on the side facing that ducting. then another thing of drywall to section off the flowering side, or go to the left and section off the veg area. personally, id section off the flowering space so u can check the vegging ones without disturbing the flowering girls.

idk what the michigan laws r like, so idk how many plants u can have

Just a question on your new license, in Michigan does being a patient allow you to legally grow your own bud for personal use or are you still underground?

Michigan law allows 12 plants to be grown by the patient or caregiver. I've never grown underground or anywhere for that matter, I hope this goes well.

Best advice I can give is do not buy inline fans from the Big Box they suck

Gow with Can Fan Stlye fans

they really put out and are worth the extra cash. Ebb and Flow works really well
But its safer to go soil

To be honest I haven't fully decided, though I'm leaning towards using 4' fluorescents to vegetate, and then getting maybe a 400-600w hps for flowering. I've not really looked into ventilation much but I'm sure I'll need some for the lights/heat. I've read about computer fans being used as a low cost solution but I think I want something that can handle the area for sure like maybe a 150 cfm bathroom fan. If I've done the math right it will be able to suffice as long as I have 'Negative' Pressure from the intake.

I'm allowed to grow 12 plants in Michigan and I think that would be powerful enough lighting for them all, especially if I us the SOG method.

any input will be appreciated

Whats weird with legal grows is that you basically want to grow stupidly large plants, as opposed to the more efficient method of growing tons of small plants. You might want to look at this: https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/101347-critical-mass-tree-grow-x.html You might also want to look into revegging as an alternative to clones, so you could always 12 real plants going. You almost might want to think about a way to keep some illegal clones on hand...

Or you might want to just stagger your grows and have a few flowering, a few vegging and a few rooting....
I think this is the way I'll do it. I looked at the referenced tree grow and IT WAS AMAZING. I think I can stagger 2 at a time and still have a somewhat perpetual grow, however, I'll need more light.. maybe a 1000w hps for flowering?

yeah u could have 6 plants in the flowering space at a time. if its a 60 day strain, u can harvest 2 plants every 20 days. the problem with this is you only have like 20 days for veg, so the plants wont be that big. you could switch to groups of 3, so u harvest that 60 day strain every 30 days.

Thanks everyone, I'm beginning to form my plans based on all of these opinions. I think it will be great. I'm still unsure of the lighting in the flowering room. The way I'm dividing the area it will be 4x5, will a 600 watt hps be enough?

i hate you people with real space, my grow room is my bedroom, and yes that means i have chosen sleeping with my girls over dating real girls.

im not sure if a 600w alone would cover that space good. do u already have the 600w? if so, maybe just get another 600w and put them like a foot or 2 apart. itd be better coverage than the 1000w alone, plus a bit more wattage

lol my ex hated trying to sleep with my 600W hps on in my closet

Sorry I make you feel that way man, You should grow legit so you don't have to hide it in your room! Then you can show it off to all the people your currently hiding it from haha

I've ordered a 1000 watt hps/mh setup with a parabolic reflector it was 189.99 + free shipping on Ebay, it seemed like a good deal. I hope this will solve any lighting problems I would have... now to wait...
