Noob needs advise on sick seedlings....

Hey Everyone,

I am a beginner and thought id do my first run through with some bag seed had laying around just to learn.

Things are been moving slower than i expected growth wise but now I'm running into some obvious problems and wanted to get some opinions. They have begun turning yellow from the tips inward. New growth looks ok but older leaves are yellowing and even curling upwards a bit on the edges. (not tips)

Here are a few pics and then I'll explain my set up.



The color variation looks more dramatic under my lights but the pics didn't come out due to the color spectrum.

So here's what's gone on so far with these guys....the seeds popped about the end of last month

(1-29-15) added to tent under lights.
(2-7-15) 10 days later fed 1/2 strength...second leaves just emerging
(2-11-15) Plain water
(2-15-15) Transplanted to lager pots - watered with Super Thrive - added second light to tent
(2-18-15) fed full strength

Nutes are:
Dyna-Gro DYFOL008 Foliage Pro
Hydrofarm GH5312 CaMg+ Plant Nutrition
Super Thrive when mentioned...

Soil is a mix of, organic gandening soil, perite, vermiculite and dolimite lime

Tent is 4.5 x 4.5 with TWO 180w LED UFOs. Lights are hung about 18" from tops of plants.

I have looked at some diagnosis pages and from the pics i've seen it looks like light burn or heat but the lights are a foot and a half away and LED and the heat isn't bad. 75-80 degrees.

ALSO, Don't these look small for being in the tent for 3 1/2 weeks?

I'd really appreciate any help you guys can offer.

they are frying. too much nutes for a seedling. I would do a flush on them, they also look pretty dry. Keeping the soil too dry will make for slow growth. Not too wet, not too dry. It will take some time to get that right. how mush lime did you put in there?

I added about 15 tbsp to the mound of soil which was for the six plants. it said two or three per plant.

So If I were to flush tonight, how long before re-adding nutes? and should I keep it at half for a while?

If you flush now and then i would use plain water the first time then start the nutes at 1/4 strength and see what happens.
Its always better to under feed than to over do it. The leaves that are damaged will die and fall off. you will have to look at the new growth.

I've got other seedlings in the same soil that are super dark green and growing strong. they haven't had nutes at all yet and are in the same environment. they're just younger.

I'm with nomofat um...it looks like your growing in mulch with some perlite...you could probably get a better medium. That's probably causing you some issues.

Terry is a bit early with the funeral music, but if you go the wrong direction with this decision you might as well cue the band. I say N deficiency because the yellow color and more yellows and browns on older growth. With N burn I would expect the burn to be on newer growth tips and no yellowing.

Maybe flushing with nutes at 50% and adjusted to proper PH. Should help either way.

Thank you...I did the flush tonight with plain PHed water...guess I'll see if there is any change in the next few days? Then maybe water with low strength feed as suggested?
As for the soil, I've read more than one thread that suggested this brand of organic soil mix. I've just put them in one gallon pots so i guess if it's a huge issue I could change soil on the next upsize...

Expect to have to feed more N if you have a bunch of wood chunks, you can deal with it. If it's N def you will likely kill it with the plain water flush. If it doesn't look better pretty quick you better flush again with at least some N or we can cue the band.
