Northern Alberta, Canada..would it work?

Hey guys,

It's been a long time since I've grown, maybe about 9-10 years. I've forgotten a lot of the more advanced stuff but still know the basics. I live in Northern, Alberta and don't even smoke pot any more but I still absolutely love the plant and miss growing. I'm not looking to get in any trouble which would cause me to lose my job and so on but I was wondering if I germed some seeds and just planted them somewhere, maybe just like 5 females or something and left them to fend for themselves outdoors if you think they would survive, and if it's too late to start now? I could put some copper around them for slugs but I wouldn't want to visit them much so I may not be able to fertilize them much. I'm not looking to grow the perfect. As long as they flowed and produce bud I's be happy.

My main concern is the PH of the soil here. I'm not sure if I could plant directly in the ground. That was a problem in Eastern Canada where I lived because of the bog and Evergreen trees. I'm kinda guessing it's the same here. Any advice appreciated.

Unless you started your seeds back in early February, you are too late for this year.

I have planted outdoors in my area (central Alberta) and did have sucess albeit with a lot of work both with logistics and overall husbandry requirements. Because of the high altitude in Alberta, most parts start to get killer frosts in late september to early october so you must induce flowering early and that means a ridiculous amount of work to sucessfully harvest.

It basically involves taking black tarps and covering your plant(s) in order to get a 12/12 photoperiod and the further north you go, the sooner you will have to do this. You would have to start covering your plant(s) around the first of August and every day untill harvest. For me, it would suck to have to spend half of our precious summertime tucking plants in and out of bed daily instead of enjoying our super amazing country.

I concur, to late for Alberta (Anywhere in the province) and definately sucks having a really short and changing summer as we do. In our climate it is a MUST to start indoors, unfortunately we get our cold weather so late into spring and very early come fall there is not much of a growing season; indica's maybe with some care, sativas forget about it.

Maybe in the HAT, an outdoor grow does not have to be laboriously maintained.

well,i have a little different opinion,i suggest autoflowers, they have short live, will be ready in 3 months outside(approx.),do some research, choose&order some beans(whatever u like, there are plenty).you can start inside,do the sexing(1 month for most of them)under some sfl or fluoro(works great for the start),then plant the ladys outside and hope they will survive.just have in mind, the yield is not gonna be huge,so plant more:bigjoint:.also mix the native soil&some potting soil(home depot, wallmart),or dig holes and fill with potting soil(better).:leaf:

also they do not need much fertilizering,(none for 3 weeks, until sexing if the potting soil is good -(worm casting is o.k.),i think 5-10$ invest./plant(+the seeds,of course)

Yall forgot to mention that he could maybe look into growing some auto's. Im not from your area or familiar with it but id bet he could pull off a nice auto harvest still... For the OP autoflower strains will flower not matter what light conditions they recieve after about the 3rd week of veg... Good lUck and Have Fun!J4x4

It is possible but requires more work. I would suggest getting dr green thumbs Iranian auto flower . I think that could finish by the end of September. Mine still arent out yet so and we are getting rain for the next week I'm in eastern Canada. I'm thinking I may need to use a few mini PVC greenhouses at the end if the season possibly. I'm growing early skunk and they are three weeks old now still small so I don't know what to expect

Thanks guys. I'll probably wait until next year then and buy 10 autoflower seeds. I grew those before, it was Mighty Mite x AK47 autoflowers. from maybe Nirvana..can't remember now it was so long. Force flowering is out of the question since I need to keep a really low profile. If I had those autoflowers I could plant them and then maybe in the night give them some fert a few times.
