this is my first run with living soil so I'm interested to see if I can go all the way through flower with only water. May end up changing that idea as this goes but looking good for now. Soil might be a little hot, but that's good this early I think. :)

Hi Whats the fan noise like, needing something really really quite considering this or area 51, any idea which of the best led lights are near silent and use the very best crees.

Not into DIY.

Thanks.
I think in this led unit are these fans:
http://noctua.at/en/nf-f12-pwm/specification

They are high quality fans and the efficeny is top and silent they should be too. I think you cant find better ones with same performance

Awesome thank you all so much.

Love this forum.

P.s forgot to add i need to cover a 4x4 tent i.e 1.2x1.2 metres, currently with a 600 watt hps in it with flood and drain tray/hydroton yeilding around 400 grams with a few weeks veg.

Too hot for up coming summer though.

What are your thoughts on area 52 compared to these.

hey kmog was thinking about getting one of these but at the 4000k color spectrum how do u think it would do in a 4x4 with that spectrum.

You'd need 3-4 of them for a 4x4 I think, lol. The max coverage for flowering is I think a 2x3. So I guess you could get away with two but you'd have 6" on all sides that isn't effectively covered. In a tent with all reflective surfaces it may work out. But it also kind of depends on how much you're trying to pull. If you're aiming for around a pound I'd say 2 of them is probably sufficient with a dialed system.

I'm sure if you hit @robincnn up at his website he would probably make you a package deal. I would go with 4 photon 180s with Cree cxb3590 run them at around 125-150 Watts power lamp you couldn't produce any more in that 4x4 than that. Also keep in mind led 600 Watts vs hps 600 Watts yield totally different leaf surface temps ie you can run 5°+ hotter really with led and still be in the sweet spot.

Hi Ive been offered 2 x Johnson cx4 for the 4x4 1.2 x 1.2 meter tent.

what are your thoughts on this replacing the 600w hps

Also fan noise is very important, i need near silent fans , what is the db of the fans in the cx4 are the as quiet as a computer?

Honestly you can get 4 of the photon 180v for around the same price (maybe cheaper) and will have a good bit more light.

The cobs themselves won't be as spread, but with 4 of the photons in a 4x4, it won't matter at all, with the 120 degree lenses on the photon you'll have plenty of spread with 8 cobs in a 4x4.

Pros of northerngrowlights : about half the cost of the Johnson, more light with 4 of the photons than two of the johnsons, better fans, better lenses, better cobs.

Pros of the Johnson: more cobs, and I'm assuming slightly higher efficiency(but Johnson doesn't have numbers posted so I have no idea in actuality. Plus using cobs that are almost 2 generations old at this point is kind of behind the game)

And tbh I'd rather have the northerngrowlights with the bigger/better cobs.

The cxa 3070s on the Johnson are old versions and while I'm assuming because it has four cobs it's more efficient than the two, the fact that the older cxas don't really compare to the new vero 29s it's totally possible the photo beats it in efficiency as well.

2 X Johnson cx4 = $1098 + tax and shipping.

4 X ngl photon 180v = $1196 + tax but free shipping. And you'll have almost twice as much light.

At the price of the cx4, you're better spending a few bucks more(like $50-$100) and grabbing a plc cx300 or a couple of he 250s. You'd have way better efficiency if you decided to go that route.

But as far as affordable, highly effective lighting, the photons are probably your best best. I honestly haven't seen anyone that sells anything on the price/quality level as the northerngrowlights photon 180s. Can't really beat the sale they have going on right now, I almost can't build panels cheaper than Robin is selling them, lol.
