Not the first post I was hoping for...

So I was gonna wait until my ladies were big and happy before I made a post. Oh well.

Before I started ruining expensive seeds on a learning curve, I hit up the local dispensery and scored a few "test rabbits"... good thing I did

The first pic shows my ruined dj short blues. I put them in soil from the garden originally, first mistake. They quickly became waterlogged and stunted.

So after alot of studying, some new toys (water meter and an EC wand) I decided to go hand fed hydro. I hit up the hydro shop, grabbed nutes A and B, root excel, silicon, B-1, the works. the shop even had a nute schedule! following that was mistke #2. I also grabbed 4 more clones as a "control".

Stats:

light - 90w UFO and two 30w CFL's
medium - grodan grow cubes
temp - 65 night - 75 day - 40%RH
water - 0.8 EC/ 400-560ppm (truncheon wands are confusing) without nutes!

I know that my water PPM is too high, but that shouldnt manifest right away, no? The toxins have to build up first, right? I have had the blues for 3 weeks and the rest for 2 weeks. Could it happen that quick? The guy at the hydro store told me most water in orange county is ideal for hydro. I not listening to him anymore.:finger:

The blues never really bounced back. Even in thier present state, the roots are growing like mad!! that excelerator really works.

The second pic is master-bubba, and the reason for this post. See the dark reddish-brown blotches on the center of the leaves? and the curling/twisting?

The third is white deisel. In the bottom right corner there is small necrotic spots on that fan leaf.

The forth is of two green cracks. They show the same reddish-brown blotches in the center of the leaves as the master-bubba.

Does all of this mean that I originally burned them all with nutes? Last week I cut the solution in half. The new growth seems ok, but these old burns will stay? Should I only be watching new growth for signs of recovery?

What about the blues? If I cut the damaged leaves will this help them to recoop? Are they destined for the compost heap?

I tried to inform myself as much as I could before killing a bunch plants/money. But nothing replaces experience. I placed an order with attitude seeds yesterday. I am not planting seeds until my setup is a well oiled machine though. As a hoodlum teenager I grew a few gorrila plants. Sprouting seeds was always the easy part. keeping them happy always seemed to be the trick.

How long should I wait before I take another step? I know first-timers doom themselves by fiddling with everything to much. Thanks for reading!:-P

i would go 1/4 strength till they start showing some new growth. Give them a good rinsing/flush with 1tsp of peroxide to a gal of water. then 1/4 nutes.

Wiseguy316 is right easy on the food. And get your water tested and fix that problem. Collect rain water if you can its the best!

my only issue with rain water, is then you will need to add cal/mag. I just let my tap water sit out for 24 hrs. Sometimes in my aero i just dump it right in, the chlorine is good for killing off crud and keeping the roots healthy. What are the ppm of your tap water, may need hard water micro?

What is you ph? Looks like you need to flush these with ph adjusted water say 5-5-6-1 for hydro 3x the amount of medium then give a 1/4 strength nutes ...you have salt build up locking out your nutes....flush now!!! And once damage is done the old leaves will not recoup...but the new growth will!!! Hope this helps bro...and if you need to know anything feel free to ask. Oh yah and humidity should be higher like 60% for veg.

ph is maintained with getdown at about 6. Right out of the tap it is 8+ . I dont use straight tap though, It stands for 24 with a bubble stone and ph'ed. I have had a lot of water holding up in the medium and concerned about drowning. sounds like drowning is better than excess nutes. That is why I have kept humidity at 40% for better evaporation. I have read this somewhere, "when in doubt, flush it out!"

So even if my water is high in ppm's thats not the problem, yet.
So I will flush with 1/4 strength nutes and raise the humidity. Does 1/4 strength go for ALL suplements? (b-1, silicon, root excel, etc.) or just A and B??

Thanks lime73!

just flushed with 1/2 gallon of water each with no nutes. I plan on letting this sit for 24. tomorrow I will start with 1/4 nutes. Any intell on what nutes to withold? or what to leave full strength?

oh yeah, does anyone have one of these truncheon EC wands?

In the center is the EC reading. On the left side is ppm reading. In parenthesis under ppm it says ECx700. On the right it has another ppm reading and under that it says ECx500.

So with a raw water reading 0.8 EC, I either have:

400 ppm's (ECx500) or
560 ppm's (ECx700)

It also shows a CF reading (conductivity factor) which is ECx10.

So when I read on other threads and in books that my raw water should be no more than 150ppm's, which ppm scale is it? I have been splitting the difference, but I would like to be able to use this device to its full potential. Thoughts???

did you use peroxide in the flush? if not do it again and let it sit in there it will oxygenate everything and and kill any fungus. my tap is 240 and i haven't had any problems with it. if it was any higher or I had a problem i would go with hard water micro. i use 500 as a standard for my ec.

no peroxide in the house. I have noticed that the roots are growing in between all the cubes and not into them. Probably searching for oxygen? I am gonna have to make a run. I am gonna start cutting my tap water with distilled to drop the ppm's some, so I need that too.

1tsp per gal. - is that household (3%) peroxide?

it's better to use food grade peroxide, but yes 3 % will work. I don't think 150 is too high but it won't hurt anything to cut it with distilled or spring water.

150? on the ECx500 scale my tap is 400!! 560 on ECx700! I think I'm gonna stop drinking the tap myself. (but heavy metals taste so good-lol)

food grade? Online I found 35%... so a tsp of 35% is equal to 10 tsp of 3%. I guess food grade is better, because I would need ALOT of 3%

...and they have already perked up! all the new leaves are pointing up instead of curling down. SWEET!!!

I know the two blues look bad, but the roots are going nuts! The stunt will just effect yeild? or will potency be compromised as well??

No, I'm seriously guys (lol cartman) at what point do you all say fuck that clone, toss it and replace it with a new?? I just picked up two more, and seeing how green and happy they are, I'm starting to think I just fucked those first two.

Man am I glad I started with clones. I would have killed seeds for sure!! fuckin newbs...

food grade peroxide is available at most health food stores, or organic stores. Its about 17 bucks for a quart but it goes along way. Only use 3-5 ml of 35% . Should find in the fridge.

I thought you said your tap was 150..oops. 400 is too high. Use distilled or spring water until you get use up the nutes you have, then look for a hard water micro.

as long as they are healthy going into flowering and healthy during flowering yield , potency should be just fine.

hard water micro? My plan was to cut my tap with r/o until I reach 150ppm. (about two to one so far) I found a gallon of 35% by "mad farmer" for $28. I guess I have more than enough!!

The guy at the hydro shop said NOT to use roots excelerator when using peroxide or shortly after. He said it kills the micro organisms in the excel. anything else I shouldnt use with peroxide?
