not yet answered n00b questions/concerns (root density) - plshelp :,c

Hey guys,
So a while ago I started with my second grow, for which I've had planned to cultivate four plants in a 5gallon bucket and keep them all rather short (switching to 12/12 when the plants reach about 19").

A few people were quite surprised when I told them I've had moved the saplings into the bucket when they haven't even had 2 nodes. Because:

1) I used standard unfeminized[*] seeds and I wouldn't be able to remove the male plants once their roots grew together.

2) At this small size the roots of the plants wouldn't produce enough density which allegedly has a negative impact on yield.

3) If I just cut off the male plants their roots will rot causing fungi to spread like hell, creating the perfect environment for gnats.

So yea should I be worried? How badly did I fuck up this time? Should i just go back to growing tomatos?

[*] I got the seeds from my last plant which went banana unnoticed and self-fertilized.
There will be male/female plants right?

Once a regular seed grown plant has been sexed,then it can be kept for has long has you want,has soon has you can get a clone take one and put it on 12/12 off,then just grow the females.

Cloning sounds like a good idea, I will use the best one of those four plants to grow a mother plant. but does it really require phytohormones/cloning gel? Or can I just place a cutling in a nutrient solution and wait until it grows some roots?
