Nutrient help

Im sure you hear this a million times but I am a new grower wanting to do an organic grow. I have looked at advanced nutrients and using their calculator they say it will $1800 for their organic line. They recommend like 10 different products. I know there are the same quality products out there for cheaper but don't know what brand or line or whatever. I want to use as much organic product as possible and keep the cost to no more than $300-$400. I was looking at a 12 site DWC setup, my buddy has one and cleans the resevoir once a week and uses advanced nutes since he isn't worried about cost. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Im sure there is a similar post out there also I just couldn't find it. Also a sample schedule would be helpful.

Well on the advanced nutes calculator they say I need like 10 jugs of some of their shit. Thats the same thing I was thinking. I was thinking a couple hundred max. What do you use.

I use fox farm nutes.

Are you in dirt or hydro or?

I havent started anything yet. I have the funds to get everything though and was looking at a 12 5 gallon pot DWC with a 50 gal rez. I was told to clean the rez and put new water and nutes every week.

soil or hydro???

I just recently started growing hydro but have been growing soil for two years. I have tiger bloom and the three solubles. Since Im go hydro should I opt for GH or AN instead of FF? I'm worried that the fox farm line up is geared more toward soil setups and would rather get another brand sooner rather than later is need be.

If you go with soil, you'll be in it for way under $100. Go to a local nursery/garden center and get a 2.8 cu ft bag of their house mix soil ($20, No added nutes) and a bag of Espoma Plant Tone or Bio Tone Starter Plus. ($14 or so) Also pick up a bag of bone meal ($10 or so) while you're there.
In a 5 gal bucket, fill the bucket about 3/4 way with the soil and add about 4 cups of the BioTone or PlantTone and mix it thoroughly. Use that mix to veg, and about a week or so before flower, scratch in (Top Dress) some bone meal to boost the P. You'll be fine. You might add some cal/mag to the mix, and maybe supplement it with a guano tea or something, but that will get you through. No need to over engineer things.

With the right lighting and attention to detail, your end result should rival or surpass your buddies.

So you think for my first time I should go with soil instead of trying a DWC? I still need to water with some nutes in the water tho right? What should I add to it? I have a few grand to put into my setup and 10 feminized brainstorm strain seeds. I just don't want to put the money and effort in to come out with crap.

Unless you live in Three Mile Island, Miami or NY, don't add anything to it. Just don't water with chlorinated water. I'm telling you to forget over engineering growing plants, get back to the basics. All you need to grow pot is soil, fertilizer, water and light (As much as you can give). Most water has enough mineral content to satisfy Mary, but Cal/mag every so often will do her good. As long as you provide all of the Macro and Micro nutrients (Google) you can't help but be successful in spite of yourself. Mary is a plant and this is basic biology, not 3rd year Chemistry and alchemy.
Every newbie post on any forum is about them trying to jump right into advanced growing techniques and they get in way over their heads. I consider Hydroponics as an advanced method. It's tough enough getting odor control, heat controll, lighting and ventilation down. Why add to your plate when you aint ate what you got?
Just keep this simple. Get a couple of grows under your belt, then decide to expand your horizons.
Sure, a hydroponic system and the associated stuff has that "mad scientist" appeal when you show your friends, but you shouldn't be doing that anyway. I killed off more plants and spent enough money to retire in Jamaica only to learn that this is really a simple thing. I only hope that you'll learn from my mistakes. Trust me, I spent a shitload of money uselessly. (I look at it as tuition, or I'd really be pissed at myself)

i jump head first! Go for hydro , screw that dirty mess. I mean how hard is keeping a bucket full of water with an airstone bubbling in it. Either way its a learning process for sure.

I would second what Jack H says. Start with soil.

Go up into Sub's organic forum and find his Supersoil recipe. Make some. Start your seeds in basic potting mix (i like Roots Organic 707). By the time the Supersoil is done the seeds will be ready to transplant. Wait 60 to 70 days and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
