hey everyone,

i just set up a 150w HPS sunsystems-II in my closet and im thinking it looks pretty good... ill get some pics of the set-up in a little bit.

so heres the details of my upcoming autoflower grow... its my first one so be nice lol:peace:

Lighting: 1x 150w HPS
Light Cycle: first 2 weeks @ 24/0, then 20/4 through completion.
Seeds: Short Stuff's Himalayan Blue Diesel
Cooling: 1x desk fan
Odor Control: not an issue at the moment
Soil: need suggestions
Nutrients: need suggestions

i just ordered my seeds and they have not arrived yet. but i pretty much want everything to be all set up by the time my seeds are done germing.

so my questions are these;

NUTES:
1. what kinds of nutrients are best for autoflower strains? organic/chemical? wet/dry?

2. do i need grow juice for autos or just bloom, since they dont need nutes untill about the same time they start flowering?

SOIL:

1. is there any type of soil that anyone would recommend as being better for an autoflower strain than normal strains?

2. will i be needing more than one type of soil? or can i add dry nutrients as the plants age to change the nutrient levels in the soil?

TWO LAST QUESTIONS:

this is pretty much everything i have considered when looking into my current grow project... im looking to germinate all 10 of the seeds that i get and grow whatever number of females i get from that all the way to maturity.

is there anything that i'm forgetting?

is there a website that someone could recommend, where i would be able to make one order and get all the soil/nutrients that i will need to carry my project all the way to completion?

Thanks In Advance

am I asking the wrong questions? or am I just not being patient enough for an answer? Seems like alot of questions are being answered much quicker than mine. No big deal, I'm just curious if it's something I'm doing wrong.

hey, im quite the opposite of a seasoned vet, just getting set up for my first grow, i was thinking soil at first but now trying to get hold of a DWC setup. ANYWHOO from what ive seen in my research so far is that if you spend a little more on soil you will get better results, i THINK you want a good soil with very low PH. a quick search will yeild probably more info but i just thought id throw in my 2 cents, hope it helped. in short, better soil = better all round lol

thanks for the soil info... I know that better soil=better grow... I was more or less looking for brand name recommendations... What are you using for soil right now? What strains are you growing?

I'm very curious about how nutrients are used for autoflowers. If it's even any different from a regular nutrient regimen. And if grow juice is needed at all. I'm pretty sure that since there's not really a vegetative state on the autoflowers, that the grow juice isn't needed and you would only use bloom juice since the plant pretty much begins it's life in flowering phase.

I have alot of questions but I'm not really sure how to search for them. It doesn't seem like there is a very large wealth of knowledge on autoflowers yet, so I'm looking for advice from experienced autoflower-growers.

also... I wanted to do everything organic from start to finish, so try to keep all your nutrient/soil recommendations organic. If you have found that an inorganic material is greatly beneficial, I am definitely open to the suggestions, but please tell me that it isn't organic so I know what I'm doing over here.

thanks again

Im wrong on the ph thing the wife has informed me, but that's easily found on here. I havnt got round to buying soil I've got 3 days left on this dwc system on eBay so I'm holding out for that right now, all organic sounds nice. We are growing a Californian hash apparently, katts smoked it b4 back home in the states and said it's good. Good luck with your grow.

fox farm happy frog is a good for growing and any fox farm nute is good as well
I had heard fox farm was good... Thanks for strengthening my opinion...

do you know if a grow juice is necessary for autoflowers? Or should I just use bloom juice since the autos will be sexed and flowering at/by day 15-20ish...

let me know

thanks

Well I'd start off by inviting you to read my NooB Advice thread (full of good info) but if your dead set on organic it will only teach you the basics you need to know (I do not buy into organic, sorry)

I prefer starting them off in a good soil then moving them to a soiless mix, it offers total control which organic does not do

for a complete organic soil that does not require nutes check out Subcools soil mix (in the organic forum)

For nutes I prefer Chemical, I use Jack's and DynaGro

FFOF has issues that tend to occur towards the end of flowering, advise getting a cal/mag supplement if you use it

Hey I'm currently on my second autoflower grow (my second grow ever) with some Short Stuff Russian Rocket Fuels. They are in Fox Farm Happy Frog soil with added perlite to improve the drainage. I used Fox Farm Ocean Forest for my first grow and didn't need nutes for about 3-4 weeks from sprout. Of course, I learned that the hard way. I'm using the full line of fox farm nutrients (Grow Big, Big Bloom, Tiger Bloom + Open Sesame, Beastie Bloom, and Cha Ching) and I learned not to feed any nutrients in ocean frog for about 3-4 weeks and start at 1/4 strength around week 5 or 6. This is just what I have learned from first hand experience.

As for a website that you could order stuff from, I would recommend plantlightinghydroponics. Cheap prices, decent shipping rates, and safe packaging.

Edit: As someone said above, use cal-mag with ocean forest.

Damn Mr Marley that is a good store. I punched in a buy for 3 gallons of nutes and it came out to 20% off retail from the hydro stores in my area even with shipping.

I'm wondering if you hit a good case scenario and say 6 ended up fem's, if you would have enough light. Maybe you should consider germing 4 instead and get maybe 2 fems to grow. Less plants but better yield. I'm not sure how much room your particular autos need but on average a 150 watter will cover a 2' x 2' area. Not much room

Yeah you should not try to grow more than 4 plants under a 150w light. For what you want to grow, you should get a 400w.
