nutrient strength

i have always wondered why the volume of nutrient recommended by the manufacturers is 2 to 3 times stonger than what is actually benificial to the growth rate of the plants.

seems like a short term gain for the nutrient company

I agree, I only mix according to ppm's, not sure why they do that but you may be right.

It varies by strain and pheno. Some are amazingly heavy feeders. Others get snippy at more than an EC of 1. n

sure, but i have never come close to being able to use 3ml/l (in the case of canna flores). i am growing trainwreck at the moment and i class that as a heavy feeder. i used 2ml/l in the second week of flowering and the top leaves curled overnight. am currently running at about 650ppm and have subtle signs of leaf burn starting.
Next i am going to grow deadhead OG and a couple white widows, does anyone have experiance with wether these are heavy feeders or not.

I'm growing White Widow (Nirvana) at the moment. It and Blueberry are the original light, fussy feeders afaik. cn

I grew lemon skunk and didn't have a TDS meter yet, in my DWC I kept to the Fox Farm grow schedule... and once I got my meter I found out that the final 3 weeks of flowering, I had a ppm of over 2000... and not a single sign of burn. I have Grapefruit right now, 6 weeks into veg, and the burn is unbelievable around 400 ppm. Lemon skunk was amazing to grow with whatever you gave it. Amazing yield too.
