Nutrients and PH question

My question is should I be checking my PH before or after I add the nutrients. Ive always have set the PH to about 7 and then I would add my nutrients. I use Foxfarms full line. So today I decided to check the PH after I added the nutrients, and it tested around 5.5. My plants dont seem to be really affected by it, and Im at my 10th grow now. But I want to know the correct way of doing it so that I can get the best out of my plants.

hydro you are right on with 5.5 dont know about soil. Hydro is good from 5.2-6.2 preferably let it swing in the middle for optimum nutrient uptake. I only check after nutes because thats what actually hits the roots.

Add the nutrients first, then correct the pH.

This is vital, most nutrients are acidic, and will drop your ph a good bit. So if you get it to 5.5 then add nutes you will most likely end up in the 4's.
