Nutrients...

For all you mass growers here... How's using jacks nutrients compared to Advanced Nutrients or other brands? Are you guys adding in other nutes or just straight Jacks only? Was your dry yield the same or better? I'm thinking about switching for my next grow! Also has anyone used something called Megabud by rainworks?

I was just reading your other thread @Lpena007 and left a comment there.

You seem to have gone into this growing thing half-cocked and just ran out and bought a bit of everything. You already have more than enough nutrients and that's not your problem at all. You have more than what you need and too many choices are going to be your downfall.

I've done about 50 tubs worth of DWC growing since 2001 and all I use with good results is AN 3-part, Big Bud for flowering and some Rhino Skin for a light dose of silica. Any old CalMag will do and some Epsom salts once in a while.

I saw in the other thread pics of your nutes and hope you're not using that guano stuff or other nutes designed for soil growing in your hydro. HOG nutes are fine but that kit you show has a lot of stuff that's not good for hydro. I've used the 3-part HOG and it's the same as AN or GH or any of the others. AN's advantage is you don't have to mess with the pH and if you do you screw up the nutes. They also have small amounts of some supplements already in the base nutes so I feel they work a little better. The 3-part isn't expensive and was actually cheaper than GH when I bought my gallon jugs 4 years ago. The 500g can of Big Bud powder cost 2/3 of what the 3 gallons cost but a little goes a long way and runs out about the same time as the nutes. A full liter of Rhino Skin seems to go bad before I can use it up so just getting a 250ml next time.

You need to do some more reading up about how to do this so get a few of the books in this link and educate yourself.

I found a great spot to download FREE POT BOOKS. I downloaded a grow bible first and got lots more. Books look great and complete like the real ones I have here. No web site but just a page of links. Just right click on what you want and then "Save Link As" to download so they don't open first as many are 50+ megs. They got lots. Enjoy.

You already got those too?

The HOG is basically the same as AN. In fact the guy that started HOG was a head guy at AN then started his own company.

I start my tubs at around 300ppm for clones. With AN 1ml/L of all 3 gives that much. So 2ml/L gives 600ppm. I don't always use all three at the same ratio tho. Once vegging well I switch to a 3:2:1 ratio, GMB. A week before flipping to veg I feed at 1:1:1 again with half a dose of Big Bud to prime the pump for flower set then when I flip to 12/12 give them the other half dose of BB. My ppm will be the highest just then as the stretch is a huge growth spurt and the plants will feed up to 4X as much for that 3 weeks then slow down feeding. After the stretch I'll switch to feeding 0:1:2 commonly known as Lucas Formula feeding. This lowers the amount of N in later flowering as too much N inhibits flowering. Too much P isn't good either and the plants want more K the final few weeks tho need all of them. Both N an P are needed in good amounts during the stretch tho.

Feed charts are just suggestions but too many people follow them to the letter and end up burning the crap out of their plants. Less is better and I'd rather see leaves yellowing and add a bit more than leaves going all burnt and crispy mid-flower with no way to fix that. Still going to get lots of pot but it's going to be loaded with excess mineral salts and not taste as good.

I rarely change my nutes and mostly go from clone to crop without changing once tho I will remove up to half and replace with RO water and nutes at the new ratio to give the plants more of what they need for the stage they are in. Changing weekly especially when the plants are small is just a waste of perfectly good nutes but of course that's what the nute makers tell you to do. Then you run out faster and have to buy more. Great scam.

A lot of guys go thru all sorts of formulas to get just the right amount of each nutrient down to the tiniest fraction. Screw that shit. I have a diploma in chemistry and don't want to be worrying about all that crap. This is supposed to be fun and not freakin' science class! The guys who make the nutes already did that shit and that's what we're paying for. Next is how much pre-made nutes cost but nutes are maybe 5% of my total costs so who gives a fug. I want ease of use and reliability. All these nutes will do the same job but AN gets my money as they work great and I don't ever have to think about the pH whether in DWC or soilless. That's worth 20% if need be to me.

I won a REMO nute package in a draw at a hydro store in the city 2 hours away and once I pick that up I'll give them a go. Have a bunch of small bottles of all their goodies in one kit. Would I have paid the $100 retail price for it? No f'n way. If I get monster yields dripping with resin then maybe. ;)

Don't get caught up in the nutrient marketing bullshit. Any balanced nutrient will work. Fancy labels and cool names are pure bullshit. Jacks will grow just as good of weed as AN or any other nutrient out there. The cannabis specific nutrient industry is a joke. Just say no. You don't need any of those overpriced products to grow fire.

Homebrewer...what is your opinion on Athena nutrients? Im looking at Dyna-Gro right now due to your side by sides. Would like your opinion on a regimen based on my setup if you have some time.
