Oasis Self Watering System Review

I wanted to put up a post about the Oasis self watering system. I bought one of these 4 years ago to handle watering while I was away. It worked fantastic as I began to travel more and more. I bought another for my veg room a year later.

Both have worked perfectly for over 4 years doing 3-4 grow cycles a year. This is a fantastic device, I looked on Amazon and it is listed for $97, I originally purchased for $67 so look around.

It is a single device system that handles 26 quartz of water, so this is perfect for 6-12 plants over 7-10 days. It uses a 9v battery - that's it. Its a loop system of drip emitters, I doubled up on my flowering pots. It comes with a bunch of emitters, stakes and tubing.

I've been able to leave my veg and flowering rooms for 10 days at a time without having to worry about watering them. You couldn't get away with using this as your exclusive watering source in flower but it definitely allows you some away time without worry - especially good for long weekends. After 10 days the plants need a thorough watering but they are healthy.

This device coupled with some soil moist crystals have made a huge difference in allowing me to travel without fear. I've had such a positive experience with this little watering machine that I thought I'd share it. Based on the temperature of the room, number and size of plants you may be able to get more then 10 days - they claim to handle 20 plants, up to 40 days!

Sorry to say that this system doesn't deliver enough water for me. Each dripper only delivers 4 oz of water per watering. It can be set to water twice daily meaning each dripper will only give 8 oz in 24 hours. You can set it up for multiple drippers per pot but I have plants in flower that will suck down over 50 oz a day. Do the math. Now adjust to the number of plants you are growing. Hmmm... 6 plants times 50 oz is 300 oz or 2 1/2 gal daily. The reservoir holds 6 gal. It's dry in 3 days. Might work in a small grow but not for me. I can stay away for a couple of extra days but not 10.

Nice review. I can keep 4 flowering plants in 3 gal. pots adequately watered for a 10 day trip, so it meets my needs nicely. I have used the Oasis for several of my vacations, and totally agree with the OP that this is a great product, though it is not for everyone.

Now that I am working under a 400w, I may have to pick up a second Oasis for those longer trips...

Thanks, my only problem is i am going to have access to the place 1-2 times a week to actually water them myself. I will have 15 plants so do you think if i give them a good watering 1-2 a week and use the oasis set for 10 days and fill it up all the way, that it will work effectivily enough to keep the plants in good health?

I think i am going to buy the oasis watering system and have something on the outside send water to it through some type of tube but im not really surw how i will set it up, do u think this could possibly work?

Yes this can and does work very well. I have a 50 gallon trash can, that was new of course to start, that I built a simple stand for to keep it a foot above the lid on the oasis. I drilled some holes and with some fittings that you would use in any 5 gallon DWC build I (setting this up for someone else in a basement next to one of those large plastic wash tubs with a hot and cold. (Next part connecting to the water lines was done last) Now the idea I came up with was setting this up for an older woman who is care giver grower for multiple cancer / aids patients, She wanted easy as possible. I ran a T fitting 3 feet before the hot and cold to the sink and connected simple on off valves to the T's mounting this all on concrete wall using copper pipe. Now I have a hot and cold where I ran the 2 valves, next I run bot into a Y fitting and after that another on / off valve. ( idea was to adjust hot and cold down at the first 2 on off valves until I came up with as close to 70'F water as I could get. I then ran the Y pipe with the outdoor garden hose on off connector to have on off with my 70'F water. Then it was as simple as putting a water level hose (look at how this is done on a 5 gallon DWC bucket anywhere on net ) on the outside of the new trash can which yes had a sealed lid and light didn't get through about a foot from the top. Now she could turn the garden hose valve and fill the garbage can and with water level set up it was basically a sealed unit to here so no nasty stuff getting in can. I even put an extra fill cork on the lid she could pop open to dump peroxide in. Then it was running a hose from the can to the oasis drilling a hole right at where the fill line on the oasis is with another hole and return hose going back into the cat which is much smaller in case of overfilling. Then after that it's basically very simple to trick this oasis into running 4 oz increments as many times a day as you want. All I had to do was call Oasis and they walked me through this. She has this set up to water 24 plants. Yes, some of it was overkill, like I didn't realize how few plants she was growing or the whole hot cold lines could have been avoided but she paid me to do it and I estimated with 3 oasis she could water triple the plants only having to add one more trash can to hold water. The hoses all had back flow couplings and eventually I came back and modified the cover for the trash can so the water could evaporate out when she wanted to let it sit. If you let tap water sit for a few days all the stuff bad for plants will evaporate that they add!

If you have any mechanical ability you'll have no problem setting this up. Tricking the Oasis into running 5 cycles instead of 8 oz per plant a day was even easier. If you used good liquid nutrients you could even buy a second or third one to feed you plants to. If your not comfortable drilling into the oasis machine you could always buy a couple. She's been using the setup I hooked her up with for a year and a half no problems.
