Who cares what Obama thinks about marijuana? The country is sinking into a morass of economic quicksand.

No, not unless you elect him again...

If he did so now, it would play into the hands of the right wing...

"First they make a black man presiiident, now they be smokeing pot in the streets". would be the first response...

Obama will NOT legalize pot ... here's why:

We have a monetary system whereby government printing presses spill out new dollars at will. When these new dollars are printed, the bankers and government benefit first. The middle class and the poor take it in the shorts because of inflation caused by the new money being put into circulation. The only way to keep a balance ... and keep inflation at a level to which the common man won't revolt, is to destroy some of the "money" that was put into circulation. The best way to do that, is to tax it out of circulation. Marijuana grows wild, can be grown personally, can be sold without government's knowledge. Therefore, Marijuana will not be legalized by Obama or anyone else who has an interest in, and benefits from, our fiat monetary system ... the largest beneficiary of that system is government itself.

Your are probably right, that is their take on it, but corn can be easily grown, yet it's not illegal. How about tomatoes, I've never heard of a "tomato tax" on private growers, yet many people grow them every summer.

Around here there are always scattered produce stands in the fall. Melons, corn, cucumbers, tomatoes, apples, pumpkins, etc. I bet the IRS or the federal government doesn't see a penny of that money, yet people still do it.

It's really a lame argument on their part.

he is now saying that he didnt know what decriminalization meant and that he is against weed but that was during his campain. i wonder if he said that so that he would still get the vote of the people who dont want to decriminalize it.

Your right but then again you gotta think about it, does corn and tomatoes make you high? Can you smoke corn and potatoes? Its the effects that attract people to buy it.

Actually, by legalizing it and taxing it, the government could probably take the money spent on the drugwar, and the new taxes and clean up the country's debt. Too bad for hundreds of thousands of attorneys, cops, jailers, prosecutors, feds, prison guards, etc. They could close down all the law schools for 20 years as there would be a glut of lawyers looking for new jobs. they could stop building all those for profit prisons. They could actually make the cops bust crooks, like robbers, B&E specialists, murderers, politicians, rapists etc.

but it's the taxation problem that keeps it illegal. Do you think it would still be illegal if big government could figure out a way to guarantee themselves a chunk of the pie? I think not. They don't want it legal because it's easy to grow, therefore difficult to tax.

the sad and simple truth is that the gov. makes more money through fines, tickets, arrests and property seizures than they could ever make taxing it, because people would grow it under the radar and never pay a dime one it. it also allows a larger base of police and gov. officials to be paid to specialize (think dea, police narc. divisions) and gives less control to the people.

therefore it will never, ever be legal... ever

I think things are coming to a head though. Our county is not salting roads this year, they can't afford the salt. They state is rumored to be only salting bridges. When comparing the future road fatalities with the cash spent on fighting a plant, something is going to break. It will be hard to justify throwing money away on the war against a plant when cities and states can't even meet basic responsibilities.

Eventually someone will follow the money and make some bold decisions.

Someone made a good point. There is an entire law enforcement/prosecution INDUSTRY heavily invested in the continued portrayal of marijuana activities as crime. The people with the most to lose by decriminalization are those who make the rules. What these people seem to be forgetting is that all of us are paying for this prohibition with our tax dollars. While lots of drugs should remain criminalized weed is not one of them. The SWAT approach to enforcement is out of control and paradixically a direct result of prohibition. Higher prices have created incentive for ruthless organized criminals to get in the marijuana game and those are the people that are a threat to cops. How often do you hear about bootleggers being a problem or danger to society? You don't because alcohol is not illegal. The time is now to vote them out. In hindsight I should have voted for Ron Paul but I was desperate for McCain not to win so I had to go with Obama....what is most frustrating about all of this is it is ASTONISHINGLY SIMPLE that pot is less harmful than alcohol and yet I have to continue to pay for it's prohibition, it makes my god damn blood boil to think about the crew-cut meathead cops who should actually be doing something of value but are instead running around giving each other high fives for shaking down casual marijuana users.
