-The Obama administration's plan to cut more than $1 trillion from the deficit over the next decade relies heavily on so-called backdoor tax increases that will result in a bigger tax bill for middle-class families.
In the 2010 budget tabled by President Barack Obama on Monday, the White House wants to let billions of dollars in tax breaks expire by the end of the year -- effectively a tax hike by stealth.
While the administration is focusing its proposal on eliminating tax breaks for individuals who earn $250,000 a year or more, middle-class families will face a slew of these backdoor increases.
The targeted tax provisions were enacted under the Bush administration's Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001. Among other things, the law lowered individual tax rates, slashed taxes on capital gains and dividends, and steadily scaled back the estate tax to zero in 2010.
If the provisions are allowed to expire on December 31, the top-tier personal income tax rate will rise to 39.6 percent from 35 percent. But lower-income families will pay more as well: the 25 percent tax bracket will revert back to 28 percent; the 28 percent bracket will increase to 31 percent; and the 33 percent bracket will increase to 36 percent. The special 10 percent bracket is eliminated.


And it was forced to be pulled and this is what they claim was wrong with it.



The Feb 1 story headlined "Backdoor taxes to hit middle class" is wrong and has been withdrawn. The story said lower-income families will pay more under tax provisions scheduled to expire Dec 31. The Obama administration's budget calls for the extension of those tax provisions for households earning less than $250,000. There will be no substitute story.

When you have a financial crisis, do you borrow as much as you can and blow it all? Because that's exactly what he's done...and now he wants MORE. His new BUDGET is INSANE.... I'm starting to think he is unfit for high office.

First.... that's one of the reasons to NOT support Obama, so you now contradict urself.

Second, it is WRONG for the govt. to "cherry pick" which corp's receive tax money.

Third, the entire bail out is WRONG. Bad corps should FAIL. NEVER throw good money at bad books.

So, if you are pro Obama, you are truly lost, by your own postings.... ur lost.

I dont see why more people cannot see the logic in this statement..... i've never heard one point that makes sense on why we should give failing companies chunks of cash, just to delay the inevitable

It isn't the companies that are being bailed out, it's the unions. It should have been called the state of the unions address.

People have the wrong idea about what a company failing means. When an airline fails, the planes don't disappear, the offices are still there, it is still an airline. What happens is those assets go into the market and are acquired by someone else who thinks they can use them more productively. Hence, ineffective management of resources is replaced by effective management. The new grows from the old. You would think liberals would be into that. If the process is not allowed to happen, because government steps in and tries to manage it itself, the inevitable is only prolonged and relief held at bay.

Company failures and recessions are like forest fires. They are natural and they are a positive regenerative force that only the foolish try to thwart. Obama is damaging the economic environment, prolonging and deepening the recession, and stimulating unemployment with his actions.

Yes, Bush was wrong to hand out TARP money, but at least we do know now that the "ppl" made money on that deal. The same cannot be said for Obama's scheming. It's the friggin SCALE of the bail outs....PLUS all the rest of the spending. My G*D, have you seen his budget? It's mind boggling to think the govt. is capable of such a willingness to fleece us all.

Every dollar spent by the govt. could've been spent by the private sector... since that is where it is stolen from. Every dollar your employer pays to the govt. is one LESS dollar they can give YOU.

Obama has been not only bailing out the corps which are heavily unionized ( parallel of union and not being competitive), but has been padding govt. payrolls. It is clear, if you want to prosper (short term)...get a govt. job. Obama seems to have no interest in stimulating the private sector...and that is exactly why business is on the sidelines... companies are fleeing overseas at a disturbing rate, and foreign investment is dwindling. The folks who understand the business world have NOT been fooled. They have either been bribed or not. They have accepted the bribes or they have not. Only if the business is CHOSEN by the govt. that is. It's a bad bad bad way to run a country....but it's a great way to run a country into the ground.

the bailouts weren't a liberal move or a conservative move, they were a political move designed only to calm the masses and give the impression that government was actually capable of aiding the economy. they were meant only to ease the shock of a collapsing market so our faith in our leaders wouldn't collapse along with it. they were a cover-up to mask all of government's past failures at equitably regulating these industries as they were sworn to do. handing billions to industry goes against the liberal party line and gaining controlling interest in the private sector is antithetical to conservative philosophy, it was all just the typical smoke and mirrors of the political gamesmanship that knows no party lines.

That might be partially true for the bank bailouts and some of that was needed. But I'm talking about the auto bailouts which were entirely political designed to throw more bones to unions. And then on top of that Obama tries to give the union members exemptions from taxes the rest of us have to pay.If you aren't in a union, you have to be a dupe to support Obama.

The bailouts were about pointing the blame AWAY from the govt., which actually CAUSED the mess to begin with. The govt. got into the real estate business, and we ALL know how that ended up.

The ruse worked because most folks don't bother to read between the lines and cannot parse a financial newspaper. It's worked so well, that they are now CONTINUING to play with real estate.... as if it's theirs to do so.

What i find amusing is the fact that most of this has been talked about for a long time now, its been in the works for years, i saw it coming and tried to tell everyone i knew............. they laughed.

Now......... the problems i have with all thats going on is, where were all of you complainers prior to Obama? this stuff is ALL not new, but now that someone that you dont like is in office i am hearing all this about the constitution, freedoms, ect....... where were you when this all started? you know if you would have been talking like this while your guy was in office, or the guy before him, or the guy before that guy. we probably wouldnt be in all this crap.
