I think the original question should have been re-worded to include the fact that marijuana is the nations largest cash crop.

***According to the USDA in CA alone $13.8 Billion worth of Cannabis is grown annually. The next closest crop in CA is "vegetables" which only make up $5.9 billion*** of which, at least for the portion that is sold in CA, $0.00 in taxes are paid, as food is not taxed.

***do not quote me on the figures, as this comes from an article on legalization which appeared today in the school newspaper at the school which I work, Though it was written by one of the editors and he is a sharp kid and I have no reason to doubt his source, but still. The front page has a picture of a green medical bottle with a hand written "Sour Diesel" label and a fat nug next to it with directions to the story...I'm sure the principle sh!t***

i dont think weed will be legalized or at least decriminalized as long as politicians are in the pockets of the major drug companies

Its already decriminalized where I live, and in 12 other states...
It is not decriminalized to grow or to purchase, and although an ounce may be enough for personal possession, not everyone has access to the local scumbag drug dealer nor the money to pay for him to risk a felony. Not to mention pay the fine and replace the Cannabis that the pig stole for his wife. I am near middle aged (no longer cool) and live in socal and I am surprised how difficult it was for me to get weed at times, I can't imagine if I lived rurally and did not grow.

I work at a fairly new school with lots of nice colored concrete. Gum was ending up on the ground so it was prohibited on campus. A couple of years later and gum is everywhere...prohibition of any kind simply does not work.

I assume you mean that they are not so disrespectful as to throw their gum on the ground or that gum is culturally repulsive rather than gum is prohibited in Singapore and the prohibition there works because everybody either has so much respect for the law or they fear the repercussions.

My analogy was comparing other instances of prohibition which again, simply does not work. It actually has a negative feedback...tell a teenager not to do something and they will...Lie to them and tell them that Marijuana is dangerous and leads to stronger drugs and 25 years after aids 1 in 4 teen age girls have an STD. They just assume they are being lied to about everything, and it is ok to lie and misrepresent things if the ends justify the means. They know adults mean well with drug misinformation. Great lesson if your future is politics or hedge funds.

But yes I am sure that if a school in Singapore banned chewing gum, the threat of being beaten with bamboo may suffice. But I would not want to judge their culture on the harshness of their justice system, that being said I think I'll just take your word for the fact that I would have trouble finding gum in Singapore whether on the ground or in the store, and not go to Singapore!

In the Netherlands where there is of course no prohibition of Cannabis, fewer people of all age groups smoke. More people by % drank during alcohol prohibition. Prohibiting humans from that which they desire is not possible...people getting beaten and imprisoned in shitty corners of the world as well as the good ol' USA is proof. The 16th President knew this 169 years ago and spoke of it in the Illinois Senate before prohibition brought crime to Illinois politics.

Hopefully I was clearer this time.

OK I guess it is prohibited, and right on par, prohibition is still a failure 100% of the time.

There was a special on years ago about prisons around the world. China has only a 2% return rate of their criminals. Once you see their prisons you know why. Every minute of the day is controlled. NO talking allowed. They figure you have behavioral problems if you come to their prisons. they make sure you are so miserable, you will not want to come back. And they don't.
