Odor control

I was on growweedeasy an I seen something about a DIY carbon filter but I can't seem to find it now an was wondering if you guys had any advice on controlling the smell.. I planned on starter a dresser box soon an trying to be as prepared as possible

Alright couple of answers in regards to some questions I have seen you post. I know I already gave you my typical copy and paste hello, but here it is again just for good measures:

WELCOME to RIU. You will find a lot of great information on here, but also some not so great information. The most important thing is to continue to learn and do individual research to find what works best for you in your garden. Make use of the forums search bar, as this is a great way to find threads that are posted on topics and questions you may have. Furthermore, don't take information as being a 100% valid without verification, I prefer members who have photos, videos, etc to back there claims, but even then every garden and grower are different.


Finally, please know that "Well-Known Member" doesn't necessarily equal "Great/Knowledgable Grower" as many new members tend to make this assumption. I am a prime example of a new grower, who has received this status simply because of my activity on the forum!

Alright, moving onto the question from previous post. As far as for a dresser grow, I personally would not use computer fans, but that is just my personal opinion. You can find fans that will move more air in and out of the unit for only a little more if not the same price.

In regards to the question at hand on this post as far as a DIY carbon filter, I have no experience with building one myself but by simple typing in "DIY filter" into the RIU search bar and selecting the option for "search titles only" you will come up with numerous threads on this exact topic.

By no means am I trying to come off as being rude, just trying to hopefully steer you in the right direction. As a new member to this forum myself if there is one thing I have learned about getting help from others, is that you must do some leg work first or they will not usually be willing to help. No man thanks a lot actually, I'm jus trying to ask as many questions and find out as much as I can before I actually start ordering things and putting the time into it.. an important kinda onna budget that's wy I was goin to use the cpu fans here they are;

This looks good. I would not get the fan your looking at. I would fork out some more cash for a PC fan with good static pressure. (Eg. Corsair SP120)

But the main questions are...

What are the interior dimensions of your dresser?

What is you min/max ambient room temp?

What lights? Will they have a separate venting or are they going to be venting in the grow box?

Ventilation generally is designed last to compensate for these factors.

Being you are on a tight budget let us discard the idea of LED due to start up costs.

In my experience, a diy cooltubed 150w hps with it's own exhaust will require less effort to vent the grow and maintain temps than 180w(actual; 3 strings of 5x12w) of open compact fluorescents. Both of these light setups will grow personal amounts in a 18"x18" space and cost under 100$.

Ok so I haven't measured the dresser yet but there's a dividend between the top 1st drawer and the bottom 3 so I was going to cut open that to place lights and exhaust fan and put the intake on the bottom.. air will probably being blown into jus the closet from the box.. and I was going to try to do a cfl grow because I'm jus starting an I might be only growing 1-3 plants at a time in the box. .

And if I do order the corsair er any cpu fan any idea to how I'm pose to wire it so I can be able to plug it in to turn it on

I would start at ground and the work up to that. Sounds like you still have to dismantle your dresser and build the door light proof. Generally light proofing is the hardest step for most.

Start with a pencil and paper: list and draw. Possible air ports, cord port(s?), location of light hanging apparatus, height/width of growing container(s?)/(soil or hydro?), scrog net supports (if going that route), etc.

Lots of ways to power a CPU fan, from a 5v-12v wall wart, an actual AC/DC fan controller and a hacked computer power supply (great for running many fans).

If you click the search in the top right, and search thread titles "dresser", you'll find lots of inspiration.

OK cool, maybe inna week er so I'll upload the pic of the dresser hollowed out, but thanks a lot for you input man

Ok so I hollowed out the box (grow area of box) would you go with setup A or Set up B

You want your intake closest to the ground where the most cool air is available as far as I understand. It looks like option A would be best. Alternatively, intake from the side would work just as well.

OK thanks, also I planned to make my own carbon filter any ideas as to where I should put it if I use setup A? And btw do you think corsair sp120 fans would get the job done
