Odor Control

I have my Northern Lights auto seeds from Nirvana and going to plant them in my closet grow room. I need to control odor but i cant afford a carbon filter.

Does ONA gel really works? Should i plant 2 or 3 seeds if i use ona gel? I dont mind that my house stinks weed but i dont want my neighbours to smell, if they smell a strong weed odor; i will be arrested.

I read that northern lights smells less than other genotypes, is that true? can i control odor with ona gel?

Its gunna stink, let's start with that. You should "probably" be fine though, with what I'm about to say you should be able to mix in other smells so that its not just dank weed smell and the neighbor hopefully doesn't just pin point it on weed. They may not ever smell it either depending on how close they are to your house. I'm figuring your like a double block or apartment or something. If your houses aren't touching I wouldn't worry.

I tried the same thing as you, low odor plant from nirvana for my first grow, Blue Mystic. Stank my house up late in veg, even with ona. Just keep it contained in a room with the door closed at all times and don't open the window in there ever. Put lots of ona around the room, best thing is to have the ona gel in front of a fan so that it really makes it evaporate. Once your in flower I would say put one of those things you put in the outlet that sprays the smelly shit out(they even make ona gel ones, and lil fans u can put on top of the ona jar) in both the grow room(room that contains the closet) and near your door to outside. Those things smell strong. Harvest time is gunna be your worst smelling time. Don't even open the door to your house/apartment on harvest day lol keep that fucker shut all day and night.

Even with all that you're still gunna be half assed and be at risk. Ona gel is not a sure fire solution.

After you do all of those things i just said you'll run yourself close to the same cost of a carbon filter, so just buy a tent and carbon filter, it'll run you about $250 bucks total(tent and filter/fan). Then call it a day. I still use the one gallon jugs of Ona Gel cuz i smoke in my house and they evaporate pretty quickly so the cost gets pretty high going through them, They're like $40 a piece.

Check out the DIY section at the top of the General MJ Growing forum. I did a DIY and there are others that have done them on cheap, easy to make effective carbon filters.

Great point, totally forgot about that. That'll bring OP's cost much lower than $250 even.

you should of put off the grow until you had the money or you live far from people the smell might get you busted ona gel will get in your bud and have a bad taste it and will not cover up the smell on good smelly buds

If you can't afford a filter, don't grow.
I reccomend you buy a Phat filter. 6"x20". I just bought one after always using Phresh filters. This filter kicks fucking ass and works as well if not better than phresh.

They are a measly $85 on ebay. Snatch one up before they're gone.
Carbon filters are the single most important thing to any grow in my opinion.

There's a thread on the first page of the diy forum for homemade ona gel also.

pore some bleach into the sink . smells like you just cleaned . buy some moth balls .

fuck yeah . or ginger . no i use bleach . i mop the kitchen floor with extra heavy bleach before strange company comes over .

Lol. Bleach works. But people might think you're cleaning up a crime scene.

Another more realistic idea is getting some strong smelling herbs like rosemary or lavender and put them in planters. Put those out on your porch or back yard. This will cover up the smell. But MJ smells strong and I think the beat solution is saving up for a carbon filter or diy like people have suggested.
