Oil in my QWISO & Am I doin it right?

Ok so, I've made QWISO a few times with cured buds. And bubble from fresh trim, etc. That was years back and I've finally got my own harvest to mess with.

Wanna make sure my results are ok as they are somewhat different results from what I've seen in the past and even online.

ALSO, I just fucking used a brand new razor blade to scrap up some of my pan and didn't fucking realize the thing was coated in some kind of mineral oil or something. You can see in the pic where it soaked into the hash, is this ok? I've got the blades soaking in some tech iso right now to wash it off but what about the stuff I already scraped?

THANKS! Any input appreciated!!

This was a pop corn run, 1 full qt. mason jar, fresh frozen, un chopped, no heat. (I did accidentally get a few small pieces of plant material, a large amount of tan colored stuff formed heavy around these pieces, the rest of the pan is coated in a very thin, almost clear layer, that is what I scarped with the oily blade.

PS> Can I do anything with the ISO soaked popcorn still in the jar? I put it back in the freezer overnight thinking maybe I could chop it up and drain it or run it again for some low quality stuff.

Lol I've done that a few times. The blades quickly rust if they don't do it

Qwiso looks good for the most part
I would just smoke it and forget about the residue. I've done it before.. it shouldn't even taste different I mean you just scraped with the oily blade right?, but if you really want it out your gonna have to re wash the hash in iso. The oil should float to the top and clump itself naturally.. you can then suck it up before the fluid has evaporated too much and there's hash floating everywhere.. and you want lose much at all

run it again man just freeze with the lid not airtight but not off either want to evaporate any left over alcohol quickly, recap after couple hours in the freezer i guess is ok if your gonna wait a day or two. but when your ready just throw some more iso in the jar and shake like crazy 30 seconds not more or less lol it seems to be the sweet spot without grabbing or leaching stuff you dont want in your wash. on nugs and good trim ive actually ran 3rd time batches as well depends how good the iso is 98% seems the best tried stronger and it takes some chlorophyll with it and you get greenish oil not tan/brown. the more you run it the less good the batches are but the second wash is usually high yield and potency with a still ok taste. hope this helps
btw chopping will help you get all you can from the nugs thc is on the surface but you increase surface area when you chop or grind it so it has more of a chance to come in contact with iso and dissolve the good stuff.

Yea I figured as much, it was just the bit of oil on the blade that soaked into that lil ball. Mainly wanted to make sure there wasn't some huge danger to smoking it.

I'll just throw it in with some of the lower quality stuff that I'll keep around for friends, lol.

No huge danger.. I mean its not super healthy and you shouldn't make it a habit. The amount would be pretty small...I don't know exactly what it is but I assume a mix of alkanes, some sort of petroleum mineral oil type thing...smells like it..

I made Gumby hash out of fresh frozen trim.
I spread it on foil in my toaster oven on its lowest setting with the door open, smell good.
got a little more chlorophyll than I like but it will get you Very High of my Ti Nail.

I refroze my weed after making the Gumby, is it worth trying to wash my frozen once used trim once in ISO?

Not imo..not if your gonna smoke it at least..the first wash gets most of the goodies and the second one will be pretty nasty

well id run it again regardless stay away from electric/open flame for heat id fill up your sink or bathtub (depending on pyrex dish size) but hot as you can water and float the dish on top of that if the water cools change it out just remember the faucet drips so use a sock on the end or move the sink one to the other side it can make a batch take forever to dry with drips in it. only reason I say to run it again regardless is the worst your out is .50 cents for a fan to exhaust the fumes, a dollar or so for the alcohol, and your time. or you can possibly throw out good smoke, like the guy said above keep one jar for pop in buddies and one jar of first wash for you and regular buddies. your call and no right answer i guess i see why ppl wouldnt want to wash again i did say it is not as good in next washes but it depends on what your washing to begin with.

Hey thanks. I ended up just mixing in the tiny piece that got some of the oil from the blade in with the rest of the 1st wash stuff.

As far as hot water and all that. I don't see the need to heat the hash after evapping overnight. I know many people do this but is there really gonna be iso trapped in there still? If anything I would put the whole pyrex on a heat pad for a while after evapping but not add heat while there is still liquid in the pan.

The colder you evap the more iso is leaving relative to terpenes and such, less degradation as well...the colder you evap the better..you should only heat at the end and only when altering consistency like making wax

I guess what I'm asking is, am I correct in that there is no need to "purge" after evapping 6-8 hours?

Also, I'm evapping in an enclosed space with a small fan blowing directly over the dish, and an exhaust fan going out the ceiling(It's a small half-bath). Temps ~68, RH ~30%. This sound about right? I could do it in the basement instead, prob 20 deg colder down there but I worry about particulates.

Btw, the fist wash stuff turned into an amber "taffy" with some speckling thru it, pretty cool, the stuff we used to make was trash appernntly.

I also got some green goo out of a mini expeiment I did, lol. After that first unchopped popcorn wash I capped the jar with 3 coffee filters and turned it upside down in the freezer over a small pyrex for like 12 hours, then took it out and evapped. Gonna play with that some but I expect it's pretty gross, hehe.

Looks like it turned out nice man. I wouldn't sweat the little bit of blade oil, I usually wipe my blades of with alcohol, but I've forgot to before its no biggy. As far as the second wash goes, I've toyed with doing as many as 3 washes........I only do 2 now. The first wash I do is generally about 30seconds with mild swirling or sloshing, then I drain that wash into a container, put it in the freezer, and do a second wash. The second wash I generally shake fairly hard, but only wash for about 20-25 seconds, then drain and rinse out the jar I did it in with alcohol and pour that through the filter into the batch. I generally get a similar yield from both runs sometimes one is more then the other I suppose it depends on the material. The first run is always nice and golden, the second is generally more of a deep amber. I also like to wash my dish with alcohol after I scrape it and save that until I've washed maybe 5-10 dishes and then evap it and you get a real nice oil that otherwise might have been wasted.

Once the dish appears dry I like to let it sit a couple more hours. Heat is not necessary and there is no real need for a "purge" once its dry its done. If you scrape and its multicolored and gooey, easily identifiable as unpurged its pretty difficult to complete without heat..because its no longer in thin film...so give a couple hours to be sure its completely dry and its all good .Typically I'm smoking my product between 20-24 hours after making it, all depends on surface area...it should be a shatter and you may have to warm it to scrape without pieces flying everywhere..but a taffy like pull and snap that can easily be touched is pretty common.. different trichs behave differently and theres no real way to know if your gonna end with wax or shatter or just goo till you've ran the strain....or seen scissor hash off it
I like making mine at dusk effectively cooling as I purge with the dropping temps. When the hash drops out of solution it doesn't stick together and leaves me with more powder..its kinda tricky to time and do just right.. but pretty cool...I like the powder style of hash

Well, I just scrapped my 2nd wash. I took the uchopped popcorn from the first wash and ground it up then washed. I accidentally dumped a bunch of ground up shit directly into the pan again so I took and rewashed with more iso and ran thru a coffee filter again.

Anyway, it came out to a good amount of tan powder, and some greenish goo(this is what we used to make). I scraped the powder stuff up and put with the other "good" stuff and the greener stuff I tried to keep separate and put in a different container.

Umm, thanks for the like? lol.

Typicaly that comes with a response from you, hehe.

Which fyi man, I know we got off on a bad step and all(cuz I'm an asshole, lol) but you're and ok dude, mostly, lol.

Tehe
I thought about just liking that post too..
No question no comment typically...im a harsh critique...some of that doesn't look too bad man not bad especially for first attempts, amber puck looks nice but it is kinda dark. some of the tan powder isn't too bad, a little green. qwiso is real tricky..which is why most people end up running butane, your also gonna realize its a lot like sift where there's a huge trade in yield for quality ..I'm adamant qwiso is the best for a single wash extraction (no winterizing or anything)

Oh and I'm an asshole too

haha, and yea, noty on the home made bho for me, I just buy it.

And always looking for, not harsh, but honest critiques. ;-). I may not even try most of this shit I'm making right now, lol, trying to learn, and I'm a mostly kinesthetic learner. ;-)

So um question...

I've been using 3x coffee filters and 2 strainers to drain and filter the iso. I put the filters inbetween the strainers, dump the iso and plant material into the top strainer and dump off the plant material after tossing a pressing is slightly.

It then takes like 10 min of me holding the strainer at different angles trying to make the shit filter thru, i even take a spoon and move some of the brown stuff away from the surface of the filters to help the flow.

My main problem is I can only do a small ammount at a time like this, about a 1/4 quart of a mason jar without making a mess and/or getting plant material into my tray.

So the question is I guess, what the hell am I doing wrong and how do I do it right?

Filtering is a pain in the ass. If you can, a vac assisted filter..buchner funnel...and a small hand pump will work wonders..comes out in a steady stream the whole way....can get entire thing under $50.. other than that I suggest only 2 coffee filters and if you like a micron syringe to finish....but yea it takes time, see if you can't get it to sit so you don't have to hold it..I'm able to pour one bottle at a time in my standard mason jar and I can pour the whole jar in the filter setup. Should be done in a few minutes. Don't mess with the filter or you risk letting stuff through

use a mesh screen in place of mason jar cap to hold back plant material while pouring .
use a reusable metal coffee filter that's mesh on bottom and sides, with the 2 coffee filters. You can pour an entire bottle of iso (slowly) into that. It will take longer and longer to filter without vac but it works pretty good
