oil vs smoke

my original excuse to grow was to make my own cbd oil, but the free seeds i was given are more thc - beggars cant be choosers and this is my first grow so i didnt want to invest much, i just wanted to learn and if all i get is good stoner wed i aint gonna complain. . i have tried cbd oil rubbed on my martial-arts arthritic hand and to me the cost was just too extreme. but - if i can grow a pound of cannibis and make my own it would be worth it.

so given a decent thc level - and assuming the general recipies i see online which are similar (~3 grams carbonalized/cup coconut oil i think) what is your experience with just getting high with smoking vs sublingual oil? if it is equal or close, sublingual is preferred as i'd like to minimize the smoke i inhale - would still keep buds for that on occassion but i dont really want it to be a daily thing.

and what about Rx? i may make a balm for rubbing on my hand, but would sublingual oil have medicinal effects as well - like insomnia fix, etc? back pain?

is there some general go-by, like you need twice as much by oil as you would need inhaling smoke?

I make cannabis coconut oil. Its edible and also can be used as a balm for sore muscles or tendons & ligaments. Grow your own plants. Because buying the amount of weed needed for a 1 month supply of CCO would be outrageous high price. I personally buy 14 liquid ounce jars of unrefined coconut oil with the the highest fat content, as that's what binds the THC n CBD. For a potent batch I'll Decarboxulate 28-30 dried grams of shredded bud in the oven covered dish for 35-40 mins at 240 degrees Fahrenheit. Then I to the melted 14 oz of coconut oil in a sealed Mason jar that's in a hot water bath in big pot of water at around 180-190 degrees on stovetop. For about 4 hours shake up and stir every 45 min. Take lid off every once in a while to vent built up pressure. Strain and cool. Then its fully usable as a balm or what I do is take 1 half tablespoons of melted oil down the ole pie trap before bed. Then I sleep 10 straight hours. Pain Free to boot! Every Night, and never fails.. sorry for the rambling, I just felt your pain :D

So basically I smoke my cured buds through my bong all day at 1.5-2 grams per day. Then take 5-10 millilitres of cannabis coconut oil an hour or 2 before bed. Using as a topical any time of day I need it. Still when you break down the cost per usage needed. Then yes Hands down growing your own is The only way to go. Plus Homegrown weed is more satisfying on a mental level. Just knowing that you made your own medication! And it works for your ailments!! ;) That's why growing is such a satisfying hobbie!!

so then you dont get as high with just the oil? thats my main question, if a tablespoon sets me right for the evening then great. dont have to be high in daytime
and yeah - growing my own, if all goes steady should have ~1.5 lb in 4-6 weeksIMG_2257.jpg

I generally smoke it @surfgeo , but I make RSO and I have a magic butter machine and use hemp seed oil in it.
Sublingual oil (eating it) is a different experience than smoking it. You can get super high eating it unless you have a tolerance. It sounds like you don’t have much of one yet so I’m jealous. If you don’t want to smoke it, then eating it is a great option to catch a buzz, just not as convenient as a joint. You smoke a joint and 5 minutes later you’re high and everything’s neat. Eat it and you have an hour anyway, and probably up to two hours, depending on your system. If you’ve eaten lately is huge also. If I’m going through an eating weed phase, I’ll hold off on food at least an hour before and after. After it’s in your system you can eat food and it won’t bring you down like it does when you smoke it.
I don‘t know of a formula to convert from smoking to how much of a dose you need. It takes a few tries to sneak up on the right dose for you, most people start small. Alternatively if you’ve got an adventurous spirit you could take a bigger dose and go along for the ride. I generally eat a gram or so of rso first thing in the morning to get a big smash right away, then taper down to half gram doses at lunch and in the evening. Mostly though I smoke it because it’s easier.
To answer your dosing question, a tablespoon a day would be a good place to start.

Your plants look awesome BTW! Great job. And
Oh no that's not what I'm saying. My potent edible CCO is extremely powerful to the point that, I will not take my Canna Oil during the daytime when I need to function fully. That's why smoking bud in morning and afternoon I can still function. My CCO is basically my sleepy meds! :bigjoint:

got it - but i am a noob - what exactly is CCO vs Canna Oil
and thanks for the kind words on my plants - i love growing all kinds of things but these buds are rewarding me with far more pleasure than anything else. i have read out the wahoo about growing on various forums and websites and do get a lot of conflicting info - some told me i was doomed to fail (still could) and other said i would be busted in 2 months. i think i am fine.

i think i will do an autoflower or 2 over winter, but i really REALLY need to research the best fungus/mold resistant heat/humidity loving strain of thc with cbd to grow outdoors next year. this is just too goshdam much fun!

Ok, it's kinda a vague term. But what I meant by CCO=Cannabis Coconut Oil. And Canna Oil is just a short term of that. But you can infuse decarboxulated cannabis into any edible oil. Say perhaps Olive oil, Vegetable oil, or any other kitchen cooking oils. It's just that Coconut Oil absorbs more THC, cbd etc. Than any other oil or Butter for that matter.

Shit I don’t think age has much to do with it. I’m 55 and I smoke 10-12 joints a day. I usually roll them 2 or 3 at a time.
I wish I had your light tolerance to cannabis, but I’d still peak it out in a month or two, just my way I guess.
Keep your lungs clean if you can and just eat it. Way better for the circulation, especially for us old timers.

I didn’t know that coconut oil absorbs more THC, good info. I used to use olive oil but it gets real thick in the fridge and has a taste to it after you eat enough of it. I started with the hemp seed oil mostly because it stays liquid in the fridge and has a low taste to it. I keep coconut oil around as it’s the world’s best at getting sticky weed off your fingers, now I’ll have to try an extraction with it. Coconut does get real solid in the fridge, but it must have a nice taste.

well i was never considered a lightweight by any means, 6' and well over 200, and i worked as a bouncer and bodyguard in my college days, indugling heavily with the likes of SRV before he went straight - (i was in the middle of the music scene in Austin)

10-12 a day???? you need to be a medical subject! ;-)

For some reason it will not spoil at room temperature. Even after a couple months. But a 14 liquid ounce never last that long though :bigjoint: Its like jar peanut butter, it never goes bad. But I do like to give my CCO a warm water bath for a liquid 5-10 milliliter dose though. Or you could spread a teaspoon of it when solid state, on a piece of toast in the morning. Or a teaspoon in your morning coffee, as I do sometimes ;)

It’s only 5 maybe 6 grams of weed a day, lots of people use more. That’s my logic anyway.
So you used to get high with Stevie Ray Vaughn?I had ”Live Alive” on the CD player all afternoon.

Yes coconut oil absorbs more cannabinoid's that are usable/upatakable, by the liver and digestive system..

I think the couple hits off a pipe and you’re set these days is more about how stupidly potent weed has gotten in the last 15-20 years.

Sometimes I’ll quit for a couple months and when I start again I can literally pluck a couple sugar leaves from the shake in the corner of the bag and be nearly too high from a hit where I barely exhaled smoke. :hump:

Wish I got high that easy, but I’d have trouble going 2 months clean.

Even quitting for 3+ months the tolerance comes back quick.

those first couple weeks back are pretty nice though.

I usually find if I quit for a month, I’ll get a month where I can get pretty ripped all the time. Tolerances suck but taking a breather isn’t so bad sometimes. Nice to have a project to work on to stay busy while you’re off it.
