OK gets one right

OK gov Stitt gave Julius Jones clemency.
Scheduled for execution in 3 hrs. Usually stitt is a pile of shit. He likes posturing and talking the talk. But here, he is actually walking the walk. This is being tough on crime. Not allowing this execution to happen. An actual act of compassion on a fellow human.
Im not for the death penalty because it costs so much and achieves so little. It isn't cost effective. We would save money by keeping them in jail for life instead. I wish it were because all human life is sacred and we can all be redeemed. But, the proof for that is scant.

It's good they didn't kill him. But I didn't like the fact he can never hope to get out, or ask for any other form of clemency.

Murder is best served with hot hands and boiling blood. Your heart has to be in it.
Some of those inmates are innocent. Our system works as it was designed.
How can you say that? It is not at all clear that Jones had a fair trial. The trial was terribly flawed. There is plenty of room for "reasonable doubt" that he should be imprisoned for life or even imprisoned at all.

I read it the other way. “Our system works as designed” suggested to me a deliberately unjust design.
Justice is the first word in the system's name. Are we going to change our language or stick to the original meaning?

One thing that was impressed on me early is that a justice administered law.

So justice and law are different beasts.
I think I'll stick with the original meaning. The fascist meaning does not appeal to me. I see where you come from, just not willing to comply with fascism.

I don’t think what I’m saying is based on fascism. Maybe I just really hope not. There were fascists in my family tree, and
just no.

What went on in Jone's and other trials is not justice. To accept calling it such by adjusting the definition, to me, amounts to bending the knee to fascism.

I'm not saying you are wrong. I think we agree. The "Justice System" needs a good overhaul.

With that I fully agree.
