OK! So I'm making the pilgrimage to Amsterdam...

I have the wonderful opportunity to travel to Amsterdam from the 29th of this month thru the 6th of Jan. and I am guessing that some of the people posting here have been before, maybe even a couple times. I am really just trying to get a general idea from someone whos really been of what being in Amsterdamn is actually like. What do I need to be careful about? How much should I expect to be paying in the way of smoke or pot food? What is the real deal with the Red Light District?
I'm just looking for a little guidance on my pilgrimage to our pot Mecca.

I know Im lucky y'all I really feel like I've won the lottery. Like I would rather have this than 10 or maybe even 20 thousand dollars.

I've been. It is a beautiful city.
It would be one of my favorite places even without the weed.
the architecture is really cool. Especially if you've never been to Europe.
Check out the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijks museum.
The Heineken Brewery is also cool. And you get a couple beers while on it.
Take boat/canal tours while baked is my favorite thing i think.

I don't know which shops are the best. I went to many small ones and a few of the Famous ones. Barney's and Dampkring are pretty popular, but I heard their products aren't the best.I was completely ripped and drunk the whole time I can't honestly tell you wich shop was best.
Grasshopper Steakhouse is pretty cool. not the best food but pretty cool atmosphere.

I liked staying in Rembrandtplein part of the city.
Also you can't go without going by Redlight district. especially if you are single.
Almost everyone I spoke to spoke English. taxi drivers and store clerks and the such.
Don't bother with Anne Frank House IMO.

If your going for 7 days you may want to catch a train to Germany or Paris for a day or 2.

many of the bathrooms are in open sight. even at the airport a was at the urinal and anyone walking by could have seen my back. Several clubs were the same way. The ones on the street tripped me out

Also as a pedestrian always yield to the bicycles. They will blow their horns at you and run you over. They have right away just about everywhere.

Wow man thanks a lot! That is pretty goddamn crazy about the urinals! That will be fun to do after a pint or two.
And I am not about to pay to use a restroom!! I will just not drink, simply put! It is not that serious.
Do you have any idea how much it costs to smoke over there?? And how do they issue the weed out??
And I wanna know some real information about the Red Light District other than I need to go visit it!!

I don't have too much info on the red light district as I had my girl with me at the time.

The price to smoke?
If I remember it varied from like 8 -15 euros per gram. depending on strain.
i don't recall prices on hash and edibles.

But you can buy by the gram up to 5 grams. You can buy prerolled joints mixed w/ tobacco or herbs. you can buy hash or edibles.

Well I guess I'll tell in detail how my trip goes and what the coffeeshop experience is really like.
8-15 euro a gram seems pretty reasonable, I imagine I'm only going to be smoking the top priced stuff at the shops.

I'm just ready to go in there and get a nice cannabis treat of some kind, maybe a coffee, and a nice primo joint.

If you come across a little head shop called Aliens don't buy any seeds there. I bought two different strains there (15 seeds each) and not a one of them germinated. The fact that their prices were way lower than some of the bigger shops should have been a tip off that all was not right but I fell for it any way. The main Dampkring seed and grow store is just a short walk across from the train station in Amsterdam. I got 15 seeds of Allegria there for 45 Euros and had 14 of them germinate. It's looking like I'll be going back thru Holland this January myself as part of my travel route to and from a job and hope to get the opportunity to do a little more shopping there.

There's a lot more to Holland than just Amsterdam and just about all the bigger cities have coffee shops. I've been in ones in both Alkmar (where I stayed in the past) and Horne. If you can get yourself to Medemblik (be sure and get a smoked eel sandwhich while there) you can ride the antique Stoom Tram up to Horne and spend the day kick'n around there before riding the regular train back to Amsterdam at night.

Just so you know, weed, hash, mushrooms, etc. are illegal in Holland. It's just that if you are not causing any problems with your other behavior the authorities will look the other way. You just can't blaze up any where, you have to be a little discreet. Obviously at the coffee shop is an O.K. place but don't make the mistake of firing up right out in public, especially while sitting out side at one of the many Tavern's. They're a little strict about not having both alcohol and weed consumed on the same premises.

During the single day I spent being a touist in Amsterdam I stuck my nose in quite a few coffee shops and other weed related places. My advice is to spend time in the smaller ones where there's more natives than touristas. If you spend 10 to 12 Euros and buy a gram of something good they'll take the time to show you how they do it up. I had my first experience in learning how to use a vaporizer in one of them. Share with those around you and you'll be sure and make some new friends.

A word of caution...Amsterdam is a big, bustling, busy place. If you get stoned and go wandering around in a daze not paying close attention there is a dam good chance you'll get run over by a bicycle or worse yet a car or trolley. I had one especially close call with a crazed Dutchmen on a bicycle. Beer also runs a little higher octane over there and you can't swill as much of it as you can of what you're use to here in the US.

Travel tip... Go to one of your local banks here before you leave and get your Euros so you show up over there with them all ready in your pocket. Don't exchange money at the airport (you'll get hosed on the exchange rate). Also need to be careful about using your credit card for cash advances in Euros. Depending on your card you can incur some hefty exchange fees. You should also call your card company and make sure your card is authorized to work in Europe. Once you get to Schipol the US currency in your pocket is not going to work for any thing. Be ready for a little sticker shock, what costs you a $1 here in the States is gonna cost you $1.50 there.

I hear Dampkring is the most infamous place there is in the way of coffeeshops, and my hotel is one about 2 blocks from the train station.

The Dampkring store across from the train station is just a grow shop. They also have a regular coffee shop but it's a little further into the heart of Amsterdam. I don't know about infamous but it's definetly one of the more upscale coffee shops there. I can't remember if it was that one or one of the other bigger coffee shops but at one of them I got barked at for not taking my hat off when I walked in.

One other really important thing.... If you meet anybody who tells you they know where there's a youth hostel in Slovakia where there's lots of young beautiful women who go there just to have sex, what ever you do, don't go!

not all top price weeds are top notch . tweed kamer, and the dampkring are both superb places to pick up well grown well cured xcelent buds at the best prices. the coin has good gear if you are in the red light district.
STAY AWAY FROM THE GRASSHOPER, BULLDOGS AND GREENHOUSE COFFEE SHOPS... the green house is famous check it out bring some weed with you from the grey area(like chocolope)..the greenhouse is the only place i left nasty weed on the table at left a gram of ssh after rolling a phatty took 2 tokes and tossed it .
have fun check the sights...all the museums should be open by now... ohh check out the mellow yellow it is a big shop with room to spread out..

I have been planning a trip there for the Cup, figured if I rounded up like 20 people air fair, hotel, & judges passes would be about 900 per person for a week stay. + the money spent having the best fuckin time of my life...

The festivals up here are the next best thing. Private property held usually on remote campgrounds that rage from thursday-sunday, my very first festy for about 2 days each bowl pack I would look around to make sure there were no cops until it finally sunk in that everyone is smoking... take a walk down to the vendors and be offered every drug known to man! meet most the cultivators and discus their products!

Those boat tours sound awesome, then again its snowing atm...

I got a travel book for Amsterdam for Christmas, and I've been looking through it. I remember reading about the grey area, that is probably where I will buy most of my weed. My hotel is literally 4 or 5 blocks down the street from the greenhouse I think.
