Old grower new to norcal...questions

Hiyas....I moved to northern Cali last summer and plan a MMJ outdoor grow. I'm starting from seed and plan on having 3 skunk #1 from Dutch passion and 3 northern lights from nirvana. I'm in the Sierra foothills....about 1400 ft elevation........I have growing experience, but am from an area with a much colder climate, I usually didn't plant outdoors until Mother's Day, end of may.

so here's my plan....feel free to critique:

gonna paper towel the seeds the first week in feb. then put them in cups for a bit...then 1 gal smart pots under fluorescents. On nice days, say in march, gonna give em some sun light.

The last frost date is April 14... Plan on putting them in a small greenhouse then and eventually putting them in 7-10 gallon pots. Local MMJ ordinance gives me 50 square feet to grow in, so I really don't want them too big, and I only need a bit over a pound a year anyway. Soil will be ff ocean forest.

so, how's the plan sound...any comments would be appreciated...thanks!

I planted my skunk#1's(sensi seeds) on 4/20 this year and they were 12+ footers!!! 30gal geo pots w/ ff happy frog. Took clones from it early and put them out june 28th and they still pulled over lb/plant. They vegged so quick and big. No wonder it's such a legend. I am close to sea level but shouldn't be a huge difference.

clones are easier...
also if you put them out that early you will need supplemental lighting..or they will start to bud then reveg...

also 7gallon pots are too small
i wouldn't run anything less than 18 gallons...

If you are being very strict about the 50 square feet part then 6 seedlings in 10 gallons started in may, should be more than your space can handle. But more dirt never hurts.

I don't put any of my clones out till 3rd week in may and they won't flower/reveg. Local flowering onset is about aug 7-14.

Around here, if you're doing a med grow, you can expect the town cops to come around. They won't do anything to you as long as your following the local grow ordinance...etc....so, yea, I have to be strict about growing within 50 square feet......maybe I will do less plants.

Six should be fine but definitely enough. Untamed bushes with that much time wouldn't work. But prune them well and maybe some training/topping/super cropping so that you get nothing but 50 sqft of pure head nugs and perfect secondaries. Trellis helps keep some side branching going more upward too.

Ok I have been growin outdoor in nor cal for 10 yrs and I'll tell you you will want way bigger pots than 7 or 10 gallon :) , that's the size I use for my indoor, but I do 100 gal and 200 gal smart pots and pull 3-5lbs a plant! And being in Cali you are going to want to up your game when it comes to your gentics, bubba kush , og kush , sour d, girl scout cookies , and cherry pie are the gentics that most of us are growin( in Cali it's all that will sell , the other stuff be ready to have to give it away)

Oh and idk were your getting that last frost date but I'm at 2k ft and it well freeze into may some years. I recommend starting them indoors then moving them out the end of may( plant that I have put out at the beginning of may and plants I put out at the end of may always turn out the same size), and just saw the part of your post that says 50square ft of growing , well maybe you'll want to do smaller size pots , but you can cram a lot of plants in 50 sq ft if you try:)

End of May... really better off waiting until beginning of June to be sure.... keep your eyes on the weather... and actually monitor the amount of sunlight in your grow spot to determine.... its preferred that overnight temps dont dip below 45 when transplanting.

2 plants using 30-50 gallon smart pots spaced a good 5 feet apart and you will get about 1-3 lbs per plant. Train them to keep them low if you want... but they will grow grow grow... sprouting beans that early you will have monsters. you will find that as you get into it your views will change.... why not have a little extra? 50 square feet is small by Cali standards, but will definitely overproduce your goal if you do it right.

True that I have never had problems when I put them out first part of June, and yeah with starting beans now you will have monster, I have beans started now but I'm going to flower them indoors and pick my mom plant for this years outdoor grow.

Thank you all for your responses.....I'm gonna hold off on sprouting any beans till march or later. Keep em inside till end of may. Eventually I will select a few to flower, in large air pots.....I'm gonna have to do some reading on training/pruning techniques, I like the idea of having 50 sq. feet of nugs on a trellis system....thanks again all.
