I lived it. It's not nostalgia. I have yet to smoke a newer "fire" strain that gets me even close to those strains I had in the 90's.
I just posted on my grow journal, about this VERY thing! Everything in todays genetics are so convoluted, they are hundreds of strains deep! Breeding for high THC, seems to be making everything like moonshine. It will get you fucked up, but the buzz is similar on most of them. I get a more, quick, heavy buzz from newer strains.
I like the slow creep and 15 minutes later, "what the hell did I just do?"
I've gotten high as hell, from 17%-20% THC strains. I feel like I was higher in the 90s than I've been these past few decades.
It's not tolerance, I smoked some Columbian land race recently and it fucked me up!

Yessir. I barely get a buzz from this new crap. I'm excited to sample the cripXmas. It better get me so high that I don't want to go into the gas station to buy a drink. Remember being that high? I sure as fuck do. That was my baseline

I totally agree! With all these genetics 100 strains deep, how can ANY strain really have stable genetics? Find a pheno with a great expression, and it's always, a "one off" recessive gene trait.
Try breeding that through sorting out genetic expression and isolate the particular trait you are looking for. Nearly impossible! It came from 100 other strains! That's why everything is S1female beans now.
That's also why it's so important to try and find simple, two way crosses and "anchor strains", that were bred and sorted with hundreds of plants over multiple generations from f1, f2, f3 etc...

Selfing a plant with silver nitrate is NOT breeding.
