To fend off some of the reflector negativity I set to work to craft a few quick and effective reflectors. While it's probably only a step up from the soda can reflectors, I think it'll get the job done until I install the horizontal reflector.
Unfortunately I ran out of Mylar so I could only whip up three, but once again their mere existence is worthless at this point due to the fact that the seedlings aren't taking in any decent amount of light at this stage.

havent came back in a couple of days, but your grow sounds like the one I got goin now. One question. Your bulbs are all 6500K? What you gonna use for budding? You have all soft white. You need warm white for budding. You gonna veg your plants at all. I have three rooms: clones, mother and bud. total of 32 cfl bulbs. I crop 12 every 2 weeks and they just rotate 12 plants per bucket. 4 trays in bud and 2 in clone room so they veg for two weeks. Then once they reach the bud room any stemming is taken for clones and everything else beneath the canopy is taken off. This kinda what your thinkin of doin? I am excited I havent seen anyone else you a lot of cfl's like me. What strains you got goin?

nice .. i like the way u think .. when i first started i was using shop lights and a cpl cfls .. then one day i seriusly went and got like 40CFLs and had like 2 shop light fixtures and two t-8 seedlings lights it was redicuolous haha and now ive got an 1000w mh and a 1000w hps ... like u siad in one of ur earlier posts "if i use 40different cfls thats more angles than 1HID lamp" .. i agree with u some .. if u used mylar and covered a certain i unno 6.5X6.5 room u wud get a hell of a lot more use out of 1 1000watter thebn 40 cfls.. but im not bashing cfls at all . b/c if u kno how to use them u can get great reuslts .. i myself use them on seperrated grows and am pleased with my results .. best of luck to u man!!

Alright well I guess it's time for an update. My first batch of planted seeds never broke the soil line after a week so I scrapped them, tilled up the soil, and planted a new batch of seeds that I had been germinating. This batch proved to be more promising, with 4 seeds actually penetrating the soil line after about two days. Unfortunately, shortly after emerging, two of the seedlings browned, whithered, and died in about 8 hours. There currently remains two seedlings who recently shed their shell casings. I'm not getting my hopes of over them but I'll give them a chance to see if they can prevail. I planted several more germinated seeds today and started two more batches of seeds germinating last night. If in the next few days neither of the seedlings make any progress, I'll be scrapping them as well and completely starting over with a new generation of germinated seeds. Up until a few hours ago, I hadn't been doing much to regulate the humidity in the soil area. Since then however I've heavily misted clear plastic cups and placed them over the seeds to act as mini individual domes. So far it seems to have kept the two seedlings from losing their green. Anyways I'd been tossing and turning in bed tonight trying to fall asleep and after a few hours I thought I'd try something productive. I still had the giant cardboard tube leftover that my Mylar had come wrapped around. I sliced it in half and created a Trailer Park light fixture which I think beats the piss out of my old setup

Now as opposed to having 10 strings hanging from the ceiling, I have 2 and all of my lights are at an equal height. The clusters are more stable and more easily managed in this way as well.

I wish I knew. To be honest they're bagseeds and judging by the stash they came from, nothing special. I'll likely be ordering some TOP44 in the near future but I'd been saving up a bunch of bagseeds because my friend grinds them up and puts them in his kid's food for nutritional reasons. I figured it being my first grow and all, it's probably best I learn and abuse some bagseeds as opposed to prime-strain seeds costing $3 - $5 each.

Alright well before I give you guys an update I just want to share something VERY helpful. Walmart has absolutely everything you need for CFL soil growing. I absolutely mean this. On top of that, it has the best prices for nearly 90% of the materials/supplies. I just saw a 5 foot shop light dual t8/t12 bulb fixture with a great reflector, hanging chains/apparatus, and power cable for $8.00. Their prices for CFL bulbs ain't too bad and they've got the full gambit of color spectrums to choose from. Their lamp wiring kits, y sockets, mogul bases, ropes, chains, tape, cups, planters, and water are always in stock at low prices with a wide variety to choose from. (I do suggest if you can to stick mostly to GE (General Electric) hardware as it won't let you down.)
Anyways enough preaching the gospel of the evil mega-corporation, I got home today after work and checked my two surviving seedlings. They both now have four leaves unfolded and are very happy sitting in their mini-cup-domes basking in the 6500k lights and near 90% humidity. I did stop by Walmart and pick up a thermometer, and to be honest, it's probably the best thing I could have possibly done.
After installing the thermometer and putting the outdoor sensor inside the mini-dome with one of my seedlings, I was shocked to find that the temperature of the air around the plant was at 95 degrees Fahrenheit. To remind you, originally the grow space is around 30-40 degrees because it doesn't receive any heating/cooling from my furnace, so I had to go out and buy a space heater to keep the room at a tropical temperature. Now my CFL's don't get terribly warm however when you combine the sheer quantity in use along with the greenhouse effect the mini-domes create, the air around the soil got an unexpected 20 degree boost in temperature and I suspect it was this and the low humidity pre-mini-dome which cause several of my emerged seedlings to whither and die.
Also one of the seeds I had planted randomly on a whim decided to sprout and pop out a pair of leaves today as well so I'm glad to say I currently have three healthy seedlings at the moment. I think that's it for now though, I need to eat me some waffles.

Yeah, originally the temp was 95, I'm in the process of bringing the temps down but because it's a full blown room , it's taking some time. It's funny because it's like 15 degrees outside and I have my air conditioning on and it's still going down really really slowly....
*update* to try to speed up the temperature drop, I unscrewed whatever bulbs aren't within an inch or so of the seedlings to minimize the heat put off by the lights leaving only about 5 or 6 on. I figure for the first few days the seedlings really don't need more than 3000 or so lumens anyways so we should be ok.

I believe the center plant to have suffered from pretty severe heat stress. He spent his first two days out of the ground in 95 degree air and then the last 2 days at around 80-85 degrees. I'm having a great deal of trouble trying to get them into the 75 degree area even with a large oscillating fan blowing on them and the lights. It's 20 degrees outside and 60 degrees inside, but I can't get my grow room to stay under 70 degrees.
