Opinions on my first grow...

Hey, thanks for looking.

Started these seeds 3 weeks ago, one seems to be growing much faster than the other but they both appear to be health and growing (the big one much faster)

I have them under a 150w Sun Glo with a home made Co2 maker dropping the Cos just above the plants and a fan for air circulation. Walls are lined in tin foil and I have them on an 18/6 cycle at the minute. Feeding them organic tomato feed also.

Plan is to get my hands on 2 6500k 20w CFL's and put the Sun Glo upto about 2 foot above the plants. I'm trying to do this as cheap as possible.

At the moment I have them as close as possible without burning the top nodes.

How do you think I'm doing?
Any tips or hints for me?

Some pictures of the plants at present and the Co2 maker.

I've heard using tin foil for your reflective material may be bad for the plants, no personally experience on this though. The smaller plant looks like its been streching for the light, you might want to get a fan in there to sturdy up that stem. Just my 2 cents

What is another alternative for reflection? The walls are white normally would this be enough?

I have a fan in.

ditch the foil, yes white walls fine & much better then foil that can burn plants. plants have stretched but look healthy, surprised u got that far with that grow bulb which tends to WAY overstrech & BURN plants. Quickly get ur CFL's to make sure ur ladies stay healthy!

Yes white would be better than tin foil. If you still want reflective walls you can use mylar (just google it) or even those emergency blakents from walmart. I just pick some blakents today and will be adding it to my grow soon. It was only like 3$ for a 52"x82".

What is the best Kelvin to go for?
and should i get the highest watt possible?

Mylar reflects something like 98% of light so get that. If it's good enough for astronauts it's good enough for cannabis, but even flat white paint reflects more light than tinfoil, tinfoil isn't very reflective at all actually. Hotspots from tinfoil causing burning can happen but are more hyped up than they deserve to be - tinfoil does retain heat though which is something entirely different. With a 150w bulb so close I'd be worried. CFLS (lots of them) are the best bet if you can't get a high intensity lamp.

For veggin you want to have 6500k. Flowering you will want 2700k. But i also hear of people running mix when using CFL, ive been researching this for my own grow, some people prefer to run a 3:1 ratio of the proper temp (ie. Veg - 3 6500k to 1 2700k and vise versa for Flower).

More wattage the better as long, just keep your temp under check. You can read up for on proper CFL growing in the CFL forum. I beleive its a sub under the indoor growing forum.

Hope this helps!

Update!

I changed to cfls, 1 15watt 6500k and 2 23watt 2700k.
Removed some aluminum foil.

I've noticed a big increase in leaf growth and its all starting to clump together nicely, no stretching for the light.

Still have them on 18/6 with a fan and a co2 maker.

Comment and advice welcome!

Thanks lads and ladies :weed:

thanks man!
I've tied the bulb over the plant up so its horizontally over the plant,I think this should get more light to the top leaves?

Am I right?

HELP!

I think my brother O.D my plant on nutes when i was away.

The tips of most of the developed leaves have went a dark brown color.
How can i reverse this, ive started giving the plant straight distilled water, to try flush it out.

flushing them now, snipped the ends off some of the leaves because they looked beyond repair.

Changed my bulbs again too,
Now running 2 23watt 6500k, CFLs and 1 23watt 3200k, CFL

my plant is now about 2foot tall with 4 potentially colas on it.
I'm not exactly too sure how long its been vegging for, maybe 6 weeks or so.

Would now be a good time to switch to 12/12 to induce flowering or should I wait a couple more weeks?

The other plant that has been growing the same amount of time is tiny, only 6-8 inches maybe.

My plans seems to have had a boost since I put it back on straight water and no nutes. It grew 3 and a half inched in 12 hours, should I keep going on vegging her or switch to 12/12 and get the flowering going?
