Opinions on the best quiet air pump.

I run my setup in my bedroom closet. Fiance lives with me.

The fans make a little noise but it is just a hum when the door is closed.

My exhaust is in the attic hung from the ceiling by rope to dampen vibration. On 100% you can not hear it.

My problem is I want more bubbles!!


These are kinda expensive. I have 2 res and 1 air pump per res. The bubbles are...ok. could be better.

But the pump is quiet. I could get 2 more...but another 60$...could it be better spent?

I have a big magnetic one...that thing is jet engine loud. So..no.

Just curious if anybody has anything else they know of?

The ecoplus is awesome. The other is jus as loud and does less. I would recommend ecoplus products. I can't hear it behind a closed door. Just blends in to the rest of the growroom noises

Growing in a closet with a partner that doesn’t like noise I’d say switching to hempy buckets with coco is probably your best bet, no pumps, no noise, similar growth rate to traditional hydro.

To be fair I also enjoy sleep. And noisy pumps is bad for sleep.

Plants look fine so ill jist leave them be.

I ran “sterile” when I was in hydro too, was more talking about dissolved oxygen content, colder water holds onto o2 better so as long as your temps are 66-70 anything more than a basic pump is kind of overkill. Not detrimental in anyway but 7w running 24/7 is less on the electric bill than 50w running 24/7

Air pumps are noisy. No way around it. They are all noisy. And more noise from the airstones and bubbles. You can build an enclosure for your pump and reduce the noise and you can make your buckets quieter by adding mass (lower resonant frequency). Still pretty noisy. Too much for me even though I have my grow in a seperate room.

The only downside to my cloner is the hum from the air pump.

I've also a power head ariation pump and that works well with less noise.

I'd be surprised if there's not a bigger better version available I only needed something small for my cloner.

IIRC you definitely want to stick with what they refer to as a linear air pump. The diaphragm ones like the EcoAir are always going to be louder. And I'd have to wager a bet that this is one of those 'you get what you pay for' type of deals - just avoid over-hyped brand names with stupid markups since they know the audience is 'hydroponics' which instantly jacks prices up. Look for the pond vendors/brands for instance. For the food-grade/pet-safe ones something like a koi pond pump might be an angle to research.
