This is first full run using my HLG v2 respc board which replaced a 150w CMH. Having a small cab in the bilge of my boat makes for interesting conditions. Primarily a lack of vertical height. Knowing the HLG is considerably more intense than the CMH I have been playing with the wattage to somewhat mimic the CMH. The plants below are clones from a strain I have run for years. They were all grown in FFOF with just tap water of 7.5 that is pHed to 6.5 under a combination of a 55W 6500K duotube and a 70W HPS. Light were within 5-6" of plants. I took two healthy clones and transplanted them to a 3 gal container and began the LSTing process. After several days of tying and pinning the braches I moved the 3 gal container into the bilge and flipped on the HLG at 50Watts. The plants are 14" from the board and using a cell phone lux meter ( I know they may not be too accurate) I have a lux of 26K . Temps of 75 at 63%. From the photos you can see how healthy the sister plant in the 1 qt conatiner is but the plant under the LED within 5 days have turned leathery and just not looking happy. They are still on a low carb diet of plain H2O. Is this just a case of light shock or something else ? I will add - in the past I have had issues moving my clones from the 55w duotube 6500K to the old CMH. - always seem to take a week for the adjustment. This time around I had both the duotube and the 70w HPS plastered to the plants hoping to avoid this. Any thoughts ?

This may be a retarded idea but bear with me lol. Do you think that if you put the QB off to the side, shooting sideways hitting a 45 degree mirror to reflect down on to the plant would help in your height constrained space?

Do you have any pics of the plants in the grow space so we can visualize?

That reminds me of Trailer Park Boys when Bubbles was setting up trash can grows. Hey, whatever works right? 24 years in service, can't beat that!
So other than that- have any thoughts on whats goes on ? All light related ? I hate stressing plants.

Not sure if I have ever found a reliable way of testing the pH of soil. Please share

Somehow I knew that was coming. $200 by the time you get all the solutions to your door. Very hard to justify for a one plant kind of grower. Now, if they not so finicky, maintenance heavy and lasted for more than year I would jump on it. Have you had experience with the Kelway meters ?

No.

Well you do get what you pay for in this world. Since you aren't growing as your lively hood it probably doesn't make economic sense. Perhaps just ride it out and hope for the best. I will say that I am the type that likes to have the best of the best, regardless of if it's for a hobby or a profession. I love hot rods, working on my Corvettes, I never buy cheap tools regardless of the fact that I am not using them to make money. Thats my personal preference and my budget allows for me to indulge myself. I understand that this is not the case for everyone. I do hope that your crop does well, honestly it's not a terrible situation as of yet although the need for feed goes way up when you flip to flower so things may suddenly get progressively worse.

Well mine have lasted but I do use them daily and I keep the probes clean and stored in KCl solution (make my own super cheap). When I took about a 4 month break from growing I kept them stored in the KCl (I have a soil and a normal liquid bluelab as well as an Apera PH60S) they were fine and I was surprised to find that when I went to calibrate they were still dead on.

Quality or quantity, the choice you have to make.

And how do you make your own KCI?

I bought this stuff

There may be better stuff but this has worked.
When you say mix to saturation, do you mean add it until more won't dissolve? And am I aiming for a certain pH?

Thanks master. You should really be the one with my avatar, lol.
