Optimum DWC res temp?

I was having trouble with my res temps. 55-65 degrees. So I purchased 2 automatic temperature controll aquarium heaters that maintain a temperature of 78 degrees.

Is this too hot, or just right, I remember reading that 78 is great where as 80+ can be hindering.

Any advise guys?

Is there a clear answer to the original question? What is the optimum temps to have the water in the res?

Take back the automatic heaters and buy some adjustable ones. Dont go below 60 or above 75, use frozen water jugs to keep em cool in the summer. Adjustabe t stats in the winter.

Technically speaking, the water shouldn't get any hotter/cooler than the ambient room air, (give or take a degree) right? The summer does present some challenges, pretty much everywhere stateside.

Wrong. Radiant heat will cause the res to heat above ambient temp. This is further expressed if the res is a dark color and somewhat combated by using a white res.

also atombomb no offense but unless the bottles are gonna be strapped somehow to the bottom of the res, its a very bad idea to do that, anything below 40 degrees roots will not function properly and growth will begin to become affected, i would not put ice in my res that is directly touching my rootsi n anyway
