Hi All,
First let me say I love RIU. I'm in the middle of my first grow, there's so much to learn, and I can (and do!) literally spend hours just absorbing knowledge from this site. As we all know, it was down for a few days recently, and during that time it started to seem -- to me, at least -- like it wasn't coming back. So I started looking around for some substitute, and I did not find one I liked half as much. I did a fair amount of thinking about it, and here is what I think makes RIU stand out:
1) First and foremost, it seems to be the most heavily used -- more posts about everything, going way back; more peple responding quickly to new posts. "Most active" sums it up.
2) It has a more usable style. I believe that's due primarily to the "xenforo" forum software; it's just organized well. Some of these sites have the forums and threads all crammed together so you go cross-eyed trying to look at them; spins my head.
3) Tolerance. There are threads you can come across where seasoned members seem to be purposely trying to annoy the site administrators -- who are participating in the thread -- and there are no repercussions. I suspect on another site, a post like this one would get pretty quickly taken down, the poster (me!) banned. Here, I think we're free to discuss what we want, including the site itself. (Hope I'm right!)
That was all the "why I love RIU." I sincerely hope it gets itself back together -- I'm not complaining that it's taking time to get images working, I'm just nervous that maybe it's an indication that all is not well. And if it goes away again, it will be too late to ask you all the question I have been taking way too long to get around to asking: Where would you hang out, if there was no RIU?
I couldn't find an answer I liked. But in the worst case, if we lose this site, I'd like to go wherever my RIU brothers and sisters do...
