hi everybody, its my first time posting here, this is an awesome forum. Lots of great info. But I seem to have a bit of a unique situation. I live in phoenix, az...and I am attempting to grow my baby pot plants outside. I am unsure of how much direct sunlight they need. They are only about 9 days old and they are potted individually In Miracle Grow (I know its bad, unfortunately I didnt reach this forum in time). I am concerned because the leaves are browning on the tips already a little bit. Here are some pics of them, You can see the brown on the outside of the first true leaves.

I just want to know what you guys think might be causing this problem. is the direct az sunlight too much for these lil guys? We have also been watering them a lot just because its so hot here. Any advice or input on my situation would be greatly appreciated ; )

:peace:

I leave my babies inside until they are about a month old before I put them outside. Think of it this way you wouldn't put a baby outside all day.

thanks for your input....

so is it not very important for my plants to get any sunlight at this stage in their life?

should i hold off for a month to even put them in the sun?

Yeah

They need sunlight, she's just saying she puts them under lights for the first month inside. I'd say it's ok to leave them outside, just make sure not to over/under water them, it gets hot in AZ. Good luck.

I guess I will just leave them outside and see what happens. I hope the browning of the leaves does not continue, that is my main concern.

Im in your area, and i planted this by just droping the seeds in the ground, alittle miracle-grow all purpose, and i water everyday. (its about 5wks old and i have 8 of them) Man how hot and windy it has been, i realy did not expect them to do anything.. (the pics where taken just a few min ago)

If you have them in pots.Try placing them in a area that they get morning sun. Then in the afternoon during the hotest part of the day they get shade or dappled shade. Near trees or bushes that will shade them some when the sun is at its hotest

I dont want to scare you but those plants look small for 19 days old :S . Funny thing is that i have a similar problem but im attributing it to a soil disease, damping off. They're about hte same age, size and the leaves look "miniaturized" as do yours. Can I ask you where you got that soil?

Also, anyone else have any experience with a 3week old plant that looks that small?

thanks

Plant sizes through growth stages widely vary from strain to strain...
you should be getting some 5 fingered leaves soon.I'm a little farther north (memphis) but our temperatures here seem normal atm and I am able to put mine in the middle of my yard and get no browning of any of the leaves. If the plant starts browning on all the parts of the leaves except veins and curls a little i'd say try raising the magnesium by adding a table spoon of epsom salt to a gallon of water and adding alittle at a time while you water your plant.(water the roots not the effin plant)try to use organic soils and nutes for growing not making flowers...If you start out with a trustworthy soil( like make your own mix out of a few ingredients and let sit to compost a few months (aatleast 3 and don't put whole objects in it)you will see you get bigger better plants faster with no ugly signs of stress or plague

the soil i used was from dollar general, 2 bucks a bag, but i read the ingredients said it had perlite in it so i dunno what the problem is...i think i put too much mirACLE grow on them, i didnt find this site till after i screwed up the plants, im hoping for a comeback, but it still hasnt grown any but its still sturdy and most of it is green..im just plANT SOME MORE, learn from my mistakes and hopefully get atlest somothing good from this...

why in every post when someone says they are using miracle grow it is followed by something like "i know i shouldn't", "i know it's bad"? It's kind of funny.

well i planted my seeds in miracle grow before I knew any better. So instead of having someone point out to me that mg is bad to grow in, I just stated I already knew that. It is kind of funny though, a lot of people do say 'i know i shouldnt have used it' and all that stuff. I am going to re pot my plants tonight in some good soil.
