Outdoor Irrigation System

Last year I grew several plants DEEP into the woods. Where I live rain is random and it can get very hot in the summer. It was a bitchh doing the 30 minute hike once, sometimes twice a week while carrying jugs of water for the plants.

After more research on hydroponics than in all my time spent at college, I want to combine the idea of the water pump from the closest water source by my plants, run the hose underground, and set it to pump once a week. This year I will use the time release fertilizer so I don't have to continually apply.

Has anyone tried this or know of a water pump that could function on batteries and have a built in scheduler (timer)?

12v marine utility pump
deep cycle marine battery
solar powered battery charger
timer

there is a thread somewhere i found where a guy did exactly that with the timer. i will try to find it for you and post it. i will be attempting it this year myself. i guess with the pump, it depends on how far the water source from the plot. you would obviously need a bigger heavy duty pump for pulling water uphill or far distances.

Thats good news, it sucks being the guinea pig! I'm figuring if I can pull this off, and attach a sort of separate attachment at the end of the main hose that will give me several smaller hoses (lines), I can have one line going to each plant. No more carrying water jugs! Still going to enjoy the occasional hike to enjoy the spot and progress of the girls though :]

i couldnt agree more. i thought about doing the drip irrigation thing but i dont like fucking with emitters and having to worry about clogging and burrying all that hose and timers. im gonna just pump mine and water overhead every week or so. im looking at a 8gpm pump so i should be able to soak em down pretty fast.

Look up browndirtwarrior on youtube. He used several hundred feet of hose to get water from a creek into a HUGE holding container near his grow. And he didnt use electricity everything ran of the pressure from the water going through the hose

yeahh dirt warrior is my hero! His prohibition video is where I first got the idea. But unfortunately I only have still lakes in my grow area and I would not be able to obtain enough water pressure without a pump.

Hillbilly I definitely want to hear how your setup works out come spring. real excited to try this.

2x2 Holes,
bout 5 TBL spoons? I just followed the directions.
2 times a week they got 1 gallon of water, In the 100-110' heat.
When it was cooler they got a 2-liter a week.
Just remember the mulch.

Payed for its self by saving gas.

if you are going to use solar panel for pump might as well get a camera to see who all has been to your plot. You can abandon it befor the pigs set up there sting!!
