Outdoor Mini Grow.

Its late in the grow season in my parts of the world. My crop got rained out bad about one month ago. I was gonna give it up for the season but I figured FTS. I will call it a mini grow because I figure the plants will not get very big as the flowering season is on here. They might reach two ft and to me thats an outdoor mini grow. I will post pics of my seedlings soon.

UPDATE. All four plants are 100% male. Not worth a pic. I have never had all my plants turn out to be males. I at least get one out of four. Here we go again. Round 2 Outdoor Mini Grow.

You still have warm weather? I'm in the 40's at night up here.........

Yeah bud, right now 10:44pm its only 74° outside and thats with it raining earlier, least in central FL anyway. Weather is really nice until around Feb. Thats like the only month you would have to worry about frost.

Same area here. I started mine late too, around the same time as your four males. Think we'll get something out of these? 2 of my 4 are confirmed males so far. :-(

But I need some seeds so I'm ok with that.

You need at least 1 female to go along with those males to produce seeds, you might get lucky. For bud however if you get a female or 2 they are not gonna branch out like they could have due to it being flowering season. They are not gonna produce much at all if they are female you will be lucky to get a 1/4 oz dry if that (using a rough guesstimate from previous experience). It would be a different story if you had autoflowering plants. But hey some is better then none, but Iwouldnt spend too much money into their uptake for the little result you will be getting from them if they are females.

Some is definitely better than none! But thats why I want some seeds. So I can start at the right time next year. To be honest, I'd be happy with a bowl to smoke just to say I was successful, haha.

Yeah that is pretty strange, dont get me wrong it does get a little cool, but usually nothing below 60° till late jan early feb. When I was younger about 15 or so years ago it used to get cold Nov.-Dec.

Heres something I found it doesn't give much insight why the weather is like that but I am assuming by what part of FL (which im over in central FL by Daytona Beach)

You know what, thats exactly what I was gonna say "as long as its worth it to you thats all that matters". Keep the males and wait for the pollen sacs to open then take a brush (like a small painting brush for brushing on canvas) and get a jar. Brush the pollen into the jar and save it for when you have a female plant thats been budding and brush a bud or 2 with the pollen and those buds will produce seeds (its good to have if you ever wanna try breeding your own). Any way you see it is a learning experience

Much appreciated, Jeff. Just curious, what is the lifespan of the pollen in the jar? I've got some perfect jars that seal tight. Might be kind of fun to play around with different strains in the years to come. Whats that called? Crossbreeding?

I never let it sit open like that and also have had success using pollen a little over a year, below the person says he reached 9 months but as long as it can be stored, all i can say is at least a year.

Pollen can be stored in an lightproof/airtight container. Old film cannisters work well, though in this digital age they are becoming harder to come across nowadays...those plastic tubes that smarties or skittles or other confectionery come in are also good to use

Fresh pollen can be used immediately...but if you are going to store it, let it sit uncovered somewhere dark and still for 24 hrs or so before sealing...you want the moisture in the fresh pollen to dissipate a bit before storing....otherwise you risk getting mush.

Once the pollen is collected and dried somewh@ you can then seal the container {a few grains of rice in the container should help absorb any excess moisture} and LABEL it with plant type, date collected and then you can store it in the fridge for weeks to months, or the deep freeze where it should last for years {I've successfully pollinated with pollen 9+ months in the freezer.}

When you remove the pollen from the fridge or freezer, DO NOT open it until it has sat @ room temp for 24 hrs....if you open too soon you risk condensation th@ would render the pollen un-viable.

The pollen can be used straight or mixed 5-1 to 10-1 cornflour/pollen. The cornflour acts as a carrier for the pollen so you don't need to use all you have in one go.

Use a small brush or q-tip and in a still environment, dab @ the flowers...a few hrs to a day later you should see the pistils begin to change and shrivel....a seed is now developing.

Its crossbreeding/breeding. More ppl will just say breeding but you are breeding 2 different strains so it is considered crossbreeding. Or you could be breeding the same strain thats been producing/displaying different phenotypes trying to get a stable strain.

Same area here and my plants are maybe a week old. You can almost plant year round here. You just get a little more color with the cooler air.

Interesting stuff. Especially that cornflour tidbit. I'm definitely going to try this and also save some of the pollen, even though I have NO clue what strain this is. But if it smokes good like it did before when I found the seeds, it'll be worth saving some of the pollen.
