Hey all I have been wondering this for years and just now trying to find an answer.
Here is the deal. I have an outdoor plot that I have been growing at for about 5 years and every year the plants get Huge and purple, It does not matter what strain I plant there either.. I can plant anything there and it will always result in the same result.

The finished product is great and it is so purple it's almost black, talk about eye candy, Just wondering what ya guys thought.

What are your temps like at night? Those leaves dont look the greatest, looks like theyve been damaged, but if its been working for you good and your happy its all good.

temps 65 to 70 at night.. and yea it's working for me I am just curious as to why this is the only place this happens? usually if somethins not right growth will be stunted but that is not the case....

yes I agree the leaves look in bad shape but the ending result, it doesn't seem like the plants mind it?

I've looked around and found something that looks somewhat similar, but the conditions dont match yours really and i cant tell in the pic if the stems are doing it like yours as well.

Picture of Phosphorus being locked out from cooler temps.

Hey that does look similiar. another trademark of what is going on with this spot is weird growth..like when it's veggin, new growth can look mutated and or grow so close together the top part of the shoot cant open" hard to explain.. Is that phosphorus lockout common in native soils? It is not sandy where they are at or I would consider ph? but it is in perfect black dirt?.

yea the stem is huge but dark puple in mine, and what is interesting is that on some plants only cetain stems will have this happen..but when a plant is not purple and some stems are, its not the just the lower part of the plant. it is very unstable if it was only on the bottom of a plant I know it would be a def.

no, sorry I don't have any pics from last year. I will make sure to take some this harvest and post. The yeilds are great due to the fact they naturally get supercharged in this spot!,flavor is true to the strain the only diffrence than planting in other soils is the dark purple coloring, and major growth, some mutation on some branches as seen in one of those pics. One other note is the leaves at flowering and sometimes during veg feel very rough or dry like.

I will, post pics of harvest buds for sure I have mandalas hashberry and a strain I bred currently growing out there this year. I would like to get to the bottom of this though- thanks

the dirt doesen't drain and your plants stay wet too long it's a form of rot. you want a place with morning sun over evening sun in a plot like that.

I would be inclined to say its from temp swing or phosphorus deficiencies in most cases. I have low lights out temps in the winter in my box, pretty normal for me to see it on the stems, late in flower on the smaller leaves and buds. I've seen entire plants go purple from lack of fertilizer combined with low temps late in the flower outdoors. Beautiful foliage, but the product was a tell tale sign that it lacked nutes in the end.

I would say P deficient. Give it some bat guano of your choice suited for the stage of the plant's life cycle.

i'm pretty sure it's not from temp considering the pics are from august, when it stays warm at night.

i'm sure the rot is from his plants staying wet and the purple stems are from water logged roots from poor draining soil.
