Outdoor pest control??

Well Ive been reading all these hoer stories on the forums about all the insects that enjoy eating your plants and I've taking advanced action so when I have folly formed flowers I hope to not have the pest. I'm using a product by Bonide called Captain Jacks Dead Bug, I have mixed it 2 tablespoons per gallon of water and sprayed down my leaves quite heavily. My question is how often should I do this? and how often when its flowering? There is something on my plants now but I never can find it, I just see a few leaves with little holes in them. Any input would be much appreciated.. .. ..

I used to have the same problem with holes in the leaves. I made my own natural insect repellent and it worked very well and I ONLY use it during veg. Here is the recipe....

Mix 2-4 cloves of minced garlic with 1/4 cup of mineral oil, let sit for 24-48 hours.

Strain out the garlic and a teaspoon of chili powder and a teaspoon of dish soap. Mix well. (I used palmolive softsoap)

Take an empty spray bottle and fill it with water. Then add your garlic soap mixture.

Shake well and spray all over the plants. Coat both the top and underside of the leaves completely.

And thats it... within a week or so all of my bugs are gone and I never have to use the spay again during the season.

Before coating the entire plant, I recommend trying the mixture on a small test area of the plant as with anything, just to make sure that it will not hurt the plant. I have never had an issue, but some plants are more finicky.


Another trick I use is to hang a couple of cloves of garlic from a branch in either some cheesecloth or womens nylons. This helps with bugs and other pests cuz they all hate the strong smell of it.

I've been using neem oil every 2 weeks or so and then right as they were starting to preflower I sprayed twice with Monterey with spinosad, 4 days apart. I will continue with neem oil sprays here and there trying not to over do it until flowers start popping. Then I'm going to back off and keep vigilant, looking for signs of "bad insect damage. From what I've learned there is no way to keep all bugs away outdoors and you will see damage from time to time caused by insects flying in and out during the night. All I can do is try my best to keep them at bay.

Haha, Yea good old 'cure all' garlic! The fact that it keeps those damn vampires away from my gurlz is just an added bonus!

Does it work on grasshoppers?.

Just had some do early and complete topping on a clone outdoors.

Ya, I've had great luck with it. Everything seems to hate it. I have tons of grasshoppers around here too. One area that I use always has major bug probs, tons of leaf holes, etc. but I can never catch the fuckers in the act. As soon as I douse them in my garlic, anti-insect homebrew they disappear. So far so good. I've used it for 2 seasons. Worked way better than the $12 bottle of BS insecticidal soap!
