Outdoor seedling watering help

Alright, so I just planted my seed whose root was about half an inch or so. While I'm waiting for it to further sprout from the dirt, how much water should I be giving it? Should I keep the soil somewhat moist all the time? Or should I wait for the soil to get crumbly and dry, then water, as you do when its an adult. It gets about 8 hours daily of bright warm California sun.

Just keep it moist, no need to soak it. My personal rule of thumb is that it gets its first full watering when the seedling pops (and then fed like an adult the rest of the way). This way the tap root doesn't dry out or rot.

The fastest way i have done it was by germing it then placing in a cup (not a clear one though) and putting some plastic wrap over the top to keep moisture in and giving it a nice watering BEFORE planting the seed and putting it in a warm place and it doesn't need water again until it sprouts.

personaly i find that at this point as long as the soil dose not dry to powder your fine.... just dont water it so much that it rips the seedlings root from the dirt its holding on to
