Hmm.. The word "need" is an interestingly tricky one. People often use the word "need" for things which they really don't need, but simply would prefer to have. As an example, if my boss is telling me to do something that I don't want him/her to do, and I tell them "I need you to shut the fuck up and get out of my face right now!", is that really a need? Of course it would be much better if the curtly implied request was acknowledged, however it may not be "needed".

So, in terms of the seed, I guess the "need" would depend on your specific environmental conditions. In a tropical heated greenhouse, for example, a heated mat would not be needed, although it might help. In contrast, germination in a cold garage, a heating mat would not only be preferred, but it might be required (needed), in order to not deter germination and growth.

I agree there are so many variables that come into play. One person may need a heating pad because where they live and their setup and the next person may not need one per say. Always good to have everything on hand that way if you do need something you are not running around like a headless chicken.

Yes you should use a heating pad for seedlings in winter if your floor temperature is freezing or close to freezing

#2 I think I need a heatmat for seed germination in the winter. I run clones, so it's perfect for the winter. Heat rises and I'll be able to keep ideal temps throughout the growth cycle here is a sneak peak in the Mars Hydro 3x3

I do not think it’s necessary if indoors with existing utilities running but it would help speed up the process.

I misread. Yes I do think you need a heat mat for seedlings in winter. It's not even winter yet but I need one for my seedlings now. The nights are getting cold.

Did I need to answer all the questions to be in this? I missed the first day. I'll keep going anyway.

#3 the heating pad can heat up a shallow container of water. add an air stone, and you can use that has added humidity in the grow area MHFTW

Instead of watering your plant with cold water in winter, set your sealed gallon sprayer on the heat mat 30mins before watering.... the roots will appreciate the now room-temp gallon of water

I'll try this again on the correct day. Besides plants me and my wife have used a heating pad for our backs. It's actually something she taught me. She brought not only love, but also the heating pad into my life. But it's winter now and she wants her heat pad back. So I gotta win this one.

3. I have a small heat mat under my cat's pillow on the floor. He seems to prefer it to sleeping in the bed with me. Its a win win situation (he stinks)...

You could use it as a butt warmer for your motorcycle on cold days, if you have a 12v DC to 120v AC inverter hooked up.
