Over my head

howdy all,

I'm a fairly new grower, living in mid coast Maine growing outdoors for the first time with a mix of plants, tangerine dream, ak-47, Tahoe og kush, sweet tooth, white widow, and critical kush. The fall has been warmer than any in recent history. No frost yet and none expected for at least a week. Don't know how much this matters but I will add it anyway.

1st problem, I still have white hairs on the plants and some buds are molding. This sucks because I have 12" long buds that have developed mold in the middles.

2nd problem, the two plants that had cloudy tricomes, critical kush and tangerine dream, I've harvested, I was very particular about removing the smallest of sugar leaves, now I'm trying to dry them. The buds are starting to smell like hay.

I had the same hay smell problem with my first indoor grow. The suggestions were trim the leaves more thoroughly. I'm really starting to get bummed. The effort of the summer was to have a good harvest. Now that harvest time is here the buds are molding and the remaining buds smell like ass.

Any input will be appreciated. If I have left out any info please ask away. I will provide it soonest.

First off, let's see some pictures. The molding in the middle of your colas could be the result of bud worms, just trim away the bad and keep the good.

If you're getting a hay smell, consider sending pics of the plants right before you harvested. I'm guessing you may be harvesting too early before the buds fully mature.

Hopefully what you haven't harvested yet will have a chance to fully mature so you can see if that solves your 'hay smell' problem.

Removing to many leaves befor hanging will cause the bud to dry out to fast... causing the hay like smell.

Next time try only removing the big fan leaves first. Then aftet a few days trim the sugar leaves.
It will keep the smell and stickyness and not go hay like.

i was thinking along the same lines, sounds like the buds might be drying too fast, giving you that hay smell.. try to get them to dry a a bit slower.. if you have to, look into ways that you control the temps and moisture levels in the room or w/e you're drying them in..

Iv done both. I wet trimmed EVERYTHING then hanged. Turned into hay.

Only trimmed big fan leaves, then cut and hanged, a few days later i trimmed bigger sugar leaves, then just b4 i put the buds into jars i did my final trim/manicure. Best smelling and tasting buds iv had this way.

I think the hay smell is due to nutrition, or lack there of. Let's hear what did you did during the grow out and to get to this point in time. In Maine, there is a lot of rain. Those are washed out soils. Biggest element missing there will be Ca. With no Ca, you will have weak cell walls. Without decent micros, B for example. No Ca uptake. Without enough Mn, Cu and Zn in quantities, molds grow. Plus there is the issue of enough P, which is energy and helps to get your brix up, which is when you get all those goodies...

Get a leaf blower and dry them out after a rain if you can.
